“Class high up on a mountain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

When I first got passionate about skiing, I learned at Vail and returned year after year for over 20 years. All the while, I kept on hearing about a world class resort in Deer Valley and promised myself I would someday go there.
Five years ago, it happened. My wife and I stayed for a week and knew immediately, we would return yearly and have done so even up to this moment as we are currently completing our next to last day.
Why? It is the consummate of ski in/ ski out resorts with a European accent offering high end accommodations that merit the fare. The staff is superb and overly excited to please one and all. The restaurant and lounge provides for fine and casual dining. The lodge itself is so inviting for rest and relaxation before an after skiing.
The best feature may be the ski locker room provide for all guests and served by a staff of overachieving helpers who do just about everything, but ski for you such as put on your boots, place your skis and poles in the snow outside, great you upon return, help you out of the boots and place the skis and poles in your locker and put the boots on a drying rack for overnight.
The pearl of all pearls is to see the iconic Stein Eriksen, now in his 80`s, who won gold in the 52` Olympics in addition to numerous other world titles. He often lunches there, has a special parking place designated for him and still graces the slopes with his masterful form. The menus have specific dishes Stein prefers that are named after him and the lobby contains numerous awards and metals along with pictures from the days of his prime.
If you desire the best of all mountain experiences, whether it be during ski season or otherwise, this is as good as it gets.

Room Tip: They are all great, nicely appointed, most have fireplaces, hot tubs, bar area with frig, shower and...

The Lodge is beautiful and the service is amazing. The people working there is really nice and the breakfast is outstanding. I really enjoyed the overall treatment. Best ski experience ever! I highly reccomend it.

If you want European stuffiness, check out the Montage. If you want New York style lodging, check out the St. Regis. But, if you want to enjoy a real lodge feel in mid mountain with easy access to both sides of Deer Valley, Stein Eriksen is your place to stay. This is such a convenient location, while the other two resorts mentioned are on either edge of the resort. From Stein, you can spend a day on Empire to the right or go left to Bald, or if you have kids in ski school it is a close lift ride away or a very quick shuttle. The service is AMAZING. They literally take your boots on and off for you. The ski lockers are convenient. The dining is great. I can't say enough positive about it. I have stayed at other fine ski resorts like Park Hyatt, Beaver Creek and this place is at the top of my list.

Room Tip: I had a luxury suite which was very large. The pull down beds in the rooms are very easy and i fran...

When skiing becomes the conversation, it often comes up that you have to go to Deer Valley and stay at The Stein Eriksen Lodge. So when some fraternity buddies and I wanted to go skiing, we chose Deer Valley and I choose The Stein Eriksen. It was a great choice and I want to return with my wife and children. The facilities have an old world charm and are superior without being over the top, the food is outstanding, the service is not intrusive but supportive and helpful. Renting skis, boots and poles is easy and best of all, they help you put your boots on and then off as well as remove your skis from your locker and place them outside in the snow for you to step into an slide down to the lift. Incredible luxury! The rooms are well appointed, some with fireplaces and others with gas fireplaces. They provide evening turn down service while you dine at night. The spa is outstanding with a world class facility. Breakfast is included with you room. Eating at "The Stein" for lunch is "the thing" to do and the staff protect this treat for those staying at the hotel. Overall, The Stein Eriksen Lodge is the place to stay. In fact, The Stein Eriksen may be the destination that just happens to have the best groomed skiing in the world outside its front door.

Room Tip: All of the skiing, drinking and dining activity are in the main lodge. So try to stay as close to t...

Stayed Jan 28 - Feb 1 2013 and one word describes my stay here.....Disappointing! First, this property advertises great service, yet we found they lead with "no" almost every time and the restaurant / lounge area service is deplorable. I had to ask several times for a server during one of our visits just to get drinks. The food is average and certainly not worth the price they charged. Perhaps the worst part was the property itself. This property opened in 1982 and it looks it! We stayed in room 116-2 and it looks like my aunts house that was built that same year.......nothing has been upgraded. No marble countertops, simple tile, carpet floors, old toilets and fixtures, old single shower head, and the old gas fireplace broke on our last day.....one of my previous PC stays at Hotel Park City was way better at half the price.
Bottom Line: the partners who own this hotel have made tons of money but are short sighted. With new 5-star ski in/out resorts springing up all around (see: St. Regis, Montage, Waldorf Astoria) the Stein Ericksen will be left behind to catch up and by then it will be too late. This is a 3 star resort on its best day touting itself as 5-stars, and it is NOT. I will not stay here again and will gladly spend the same money or a little more to stay at St. Regis or Montage. The upside to this property is the location but St. Regis and Montage both have that covered. My prediction is all the good service people left the Stein years ago for those properties anyway.

Room Tip: Ask for room in main part of hotel....not outside the main lodge where you have to walk outside the...

We are just returning from a 3 night/ 4 day ski trip. We have been coming to DV for 12 years -- some years multiple times. We have never had a bad stay. Since this trip was just me and my wife (versus the larger entourage frequently along with us on trips) we decided to try the SE Lodge. We were just BLOWN AWAY by the service. The ski experience is simply phenomenol at this location. From on-site ski rentals and lift tickets to "ski valets" who set your skis out for you, stow away your gear, help buckle the always troubling boot buckles, and greet you coming and going, to the hot chocolate and cider waiting for you the second you step off of the slopes. The number of steps to get on your skis, or back inside when you are done is, literally, 5 -- yes 5!! Can you say ski in/ski out? From the folks at the front desk (we had a rugged day of travel getting to SLC) who greeted us to a free upgrade on our room -- yes, FREE, to the valet and bell staff, to the daily housekeeping crews, these folks write the book on service. The on-site restaurant had a sumptuous buffet breakfast included with our room. Dinner at the restaurant was one of the best we have eaten in Park City. Although the property may be somewhat dated compared to the opulence at the newer Montage and St. Regis, the overall feel is so warm, quiet and inviting that we will be back again. If you love being pampered at an already first class resort we heartlly recommend this property.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room overlooking the slopes, as not all have that view. Being closer to the ma...

If you're a skiier Stein Ericksen is fantastic but it's just as wonderful for us non-skiiers. There's plenty to see and do in Park City and the hotel is very accommodating in helping to arrange outings. The staff is fantastic and the service and food is first rate. I spent time in their very luxurious spa and had a great massage. I stayed in one of their suites with a fireplace----heaven. The hotel has a very authentic and rustic, but not too rustic, feel. Can't recommend it highly enough!
