“Noisy bar”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

When reviewing The Sky Lodge consideration must be given to the high prices of the accommodation and the question of value for money must therefore be a factor. The Sky Lodge is rated as 4-star but the prices are approaching 5-star.

We stayed in a 3-bedroom condominium (room 403) for 11 days primarily for a ski vacation for which we paid top dollar.

On the positive side:
• The rooms were comfortable and spacious but no better than more economically priced accommodation.
• The Sky Lodge is conveniently located for the Town Lift and the central bus station.
• The staff was friendly and helpful.
• In particular, the shuttle drivers offered an excellent service (the shuttle service is essential as The Sky Lodge is not conveniently located when shopping for provisions or accessing Park City’s main ski lifts).

On the negative side:
• There are many design flaws in The Sky Lodge. Perhaps the most annoying is the fact that there is a bar on the same corridor as some of the rooms (viz. on the 4th floor quite close to our room). If you want to enjoy the music and ambient noise of a bar without leaving the comfort your own room then this may not seem to be a disadvantage. However, we found this to be extremely annoying. The noise started in the afternoon just after skiing and continued until late at night. In addition, the bar is frequented by non-residents which raises the security issue of having non-residents wandering the corridors of the building.
• The smoke alarms are extremely sensitive. Making toast would set the alarms ringing with subsequent phone calls and knocks at the door asking if there is a problem.
• Many of the appliances (e.g. dish-washer, hot-plates for cooking, etc.) did not function correctly.
• Supplies (e.g. body wash, toilet paper, bathrobes, etc.) were not regularly replenished. This entailed having to request additional supplies personally from house-keeping. This may be nit-picking but again it’s not what you expect when paying these high prices.

All of these problems (especially the problems associated with the bar) were reported to higher management who subsequently expressed a distinct lack of interest. Obviously, the architecture cannot be changed overnight but I personally would not be willing to return to this accommodation under these conditions.

Room Tip: Avoid the 4th floor at all costs.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed, candid review. We regret we were not informed of your concerns until the end of your lengthy stay. Had we been advised with any noise issues from Sky Blue, we would have gladly accommodated you in another suite. I have informed housekeeping about replenishing provisions, and we now have an extra supply on hand in all bathrooms. I was informed the smoke detector went off when toast was burned, so it appears it was functionally properly. Upon raising your concerns about appliances, we had maintenance investigate, and they didn't discover anything that wasn't functioning.

We are trying to mitigate any noise issues with Sky Blue by having a designated apres ski time frame from 3 to 6 p.m. so guests can enjoy the complimentary appetizer offerings and drink specials at a reasonable hour that won't disturb others who may not be not partaking.

We are glad to hear you took advantage of our complimentary shuttle service. While we are just one block from the Town Lift, the shuttle comes in handy for accessing the Resort Village area and grocery stores. Other than that, we pride ourselves on our fantastic location in easy walking distance to shops, galleries and many fine restaurants.

This spring, another phase of upgrades for SKY are being planned that include enhancements to the suites and Amatsu Spa. We hope you will return to experience these improvements. Again, we appreciate your stay with us and thank you for taking the time to post a review.

If you are going to go first class then you need to stay here! The place is over the top with top quality furniture, stainless steel kitchen appliances, very comfortable beds, and all had private bathrooms.

We stayed in the handicapped-accessible room, #202, upon our request. Room and facilities were excellent, but need more lighting, especially in the bathroom which was so dark that my wife had insufficient light to put on her make-up, and it needs a ful-length mirror as well. The new owners need to re-vamp the restaurant menu and pricing: too few choices and too high prices. Location is excellent and concierge and staff make everything work wonderfully. we will be back for Sundance 2014.

Thanks for taking the time to post a review about your Sundance visit - our staff very much enjoyed having you stay with us! We appreciate the valuable feedback about the new restaurants and their offerings in addition to the in room features. We have passed this along to the appropriate departments. We look forward to seeing you both for Sundance 2014!

I have had the last 10 days to reflect on my trip to Sundance and to tell about my experience with my friends. A lot of what I share comes back to the wonderful experience I had while staying at the sky lodge. It's located perfectly in the heart of downtown, clean, well designed, and has some of the most friendly staff I have come across. Michael Hess, the concierge, was extremely helpful and responsive to requests ensuring that we had everything we needed. I was very impressed with his follow through and putting forth the extra effort to accommodate us.
If traveling to Park City I suggest to try the Sky Lodge and give Michael a call to have him lend you a hand with with your trip needs. NK

As a recent participant at the Sundance Film Festival I had the opportunity to attend an event held in The Sky Blue Lounge inside of the luxurious and contemporary Sky Lodge Hotel in the Heart of Historic Main Street in Park City.

The event was amazing primarily because everything was managed smoothly, from the private security to the knowlegeable desk staff (Virginia, Colin, Mike) and the responsive work by the Valet Staff (Alex) Kudos to your team!! I will see you again next year!

We took a ski trip here this Jan 2013. I cannot say enough about how great this hotel was. The location is right in town as close to restaurants, shopping as you would want to be and 2 blocks from the town lift. And you don't have to bother with the town lift (which is slow but does take you up the mountain - not just to the base) because the shuttle service of the hotel is always ready to take you to the Park City base or the Deer Valley base. And twice during our week, they took us to places that are not really covered by their shuttle service - always above and beyond.

The room was perfect for what we needed/wanted. My husband and I were there with our two adult sons. We had a two-bedroom suite, with a small kitchenette - perfect for breakfast or cocktails, with a microwave, frig, and dishwasher, a living room with flat screen HD TV, a pool table (the hit of the week and lots of fun), a washer/dryer, and a two person hot tub on the deck. Each bedroom had its own bath and the bathroom in the master was very large and well appointed and equipped with large closets, plenty of drawer space, bathtub, large stall shower, two sinks, separate toilet, and all the usual amenities. Only minor complaint was that the bathroom lighting was a bit dark and I would have appreciated a magnifying mirror with a light for makeup.

The staff was pleasant and helpful all of the time. Prior to our trip, they helped by booking our airport transport. During our stay they made good suggestions on restaurants, stored our skis and snowboards, and were always friendly. They are obviously well-trained.

I booked this week months ago. Just before we left I saw some negative reviews from the fall of 2012 that got me a bit worried. I gather the hotel has changed ownership. I don't know anything about the previous owners but rest assured, this hotel staff is well-trained, the hotel itself is in top condition, and you will enjoy this place.

I highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

My daughter used The Sky Lodge as the venue for her wedding ceremony and reception, and the management and staff were as helpful as they could possibly be before, during, and after the festivities. Event Coordinator Teri Nani, Mgr.'s Kevin and Lawrence, and Chef Kevin were at every beck and call, especially when an elderly guest needed special care and attention. Every staff member we encountered was genuinely kind and helpful. Thank you, Sky Lodge, for all you did for this Texas Mother-of-the-bride, her gorgeous bride to be, and all the Texas family and guests in attendance.
