This is a gorgeous drive. It's closed during the winter and spring, and you can't get very far during those seasons. But every time someone visits in the summer, I take them up there. You don't need 4-wheel drive to get to a view. You need 4WD if you want to drive the whole pass (between Park City and Big Cottonwood Canyon, or Park City and Midway), but you can drive up to a beautiful view above Park City in a normal car. The roads are paved most of the way. Just make sure you don't ride the brakes too hard on the way back down! At the roundabout to Deer Valley, go south. The road will wind up and around. When you reach the crest (you'll know it), pull off into the dirt parking area to your right.

You'll be rewarded with a full view of Park City Valley to the north and Heber/Midway to the south. You can see a breath-taking section of the Wasatch. If you walk a bit, you'll also see the Uinta mountains to the east. It's hard to describe how beautiful it is. There are plenty of hiking opportunities up there. I always (even in August) bring a hoodie or jacket, because the weather is often different up there.

If you plan to drive the PC/Cottonwood/SLC route, you'll see wildflowers from late spring to late summer. You'll want to pull over to look at the rock formations. It's spectacular. If you are driving between PC and Midway, there are a lot more trees obstructing views (especially on the Midway to PC route). If you pull off the road, however, you'll be rewarded with stream access and some really beautiful lakes and ponds. The entire area is dotted with summer cabins.
