“Relaxing resort, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2010

The Chateaux is a charming, calming, relaxing facility. The grounds are well-kept, the buildings are attractive and well-decorated. The staff is attentive, friendly and professional.

On the downside, while I know this resort was built for "Fun and relaxation" and not "Work/conferences", I found myself at the Chateaux for business. Unfortunately, the in-room workstation is not very conducive to getting work done for the modern road warrior. The small desk and uncomfortable/stiff living room chair combined with the dark corner made this an uncomfortable place to work. Also, there are not nearly enough power outlets for modern road warrior gadgets.

Still, the soothing atmosphere and accommodating service make this a great place to spend a few days in the Utah mountains.

Just got back from our ski trip and were very happy with the Chateaux. We had a 2 bedroom/3 bath condo and it was perfect for our family of 4. The unit was huge and nicely furnished. The complimentary breakfast buffet each morning was plenty to fuel up for a day of skiing. Although it's not ski in/out it was really convenient to walk across the street to the slopes. And since you can store your skis for free right there in Silver Lake you didn't have to lug them back and forth each day. Easy enough to go back to the condo for lunch each day. We also got a great deal since it was the end of the season.

We stayed at The Chateaux this summer to see if we would want to stay there during ski season. The room we got was very nice and the kitchen had everything we needed to make simple meals (and cookies). The main thing that we didn't like is that it was about 5 minutes drive from downtown Park City. The views of the mountain from our room were incredible and I'm sure its even nicer looking with snow. Over the years, we've stayed in many condo's in Park City/Deer Valley. The Chateaux was definitely one of the nicest, especially because it had a bar & restaurant in the lobby - most other condos don't have that. Plus, there are several excellent restaurants in buildings around The Chateaux. We are definitely going to try it again this winter.

The pros: The area surrounding the Chateaux is absolutely beautiful. The shuttle service and drivers are outstanding and saved us hours of heartache by driving us to and from our destinations downtown Park City each day. The woodwork in the hotel and our room was beautiful. The bed was incredibly comfortable. During the time we were there, the hotel was nearly deserted and was very quiet.

The cons: The lobby area is confusing (at least to us) and best reached either through the garage or by two small, unmarked doors from outside. The front desk staff was minimally helpful. They would answer direct questions; nothing more. No concierge (front desk person seemed to serve as concierge). No bell service. No valet. The pool has a maximum depth of 3' 9" and is very small. The carpet in our room was stained and worn to the point of being threadbare in spots. I would expect better for the price we paid. Unless you wanted to pay extortionists' fees, there was nowhere to get breakfast near the hotel, so we opted to go into town each morning.

Summary: Next trip to Park City, I think we might try one of the upscale resorts downtown.

Wow, superb property located in Silver Lake Village just off the chair lift to Deer Valley ski area. Rooms were large, nice and clean. Lots of stores and eats in walking distance. Only a mile or two to downtown Park City. Dont miss Chamayo for dinner.

Went on a ski trip with some friends the week before Xmas, and I really liked it at the Chateaux as well as Deer Valley.

Deer Valley is just less than an hour's drive from SLC airport, which I find quite convenient. Maybe because it was still early in the season, so we didn't hit much traffic on the way to the ski resort. Also, the slopes were not crowded at all, plus only skiers there, so the experience was very pleasant.

The Chateaux is just across the street from the Silver Lake base, so it was very convenient in terms of location. If you ski for several days at Deer Valley, they actually have free ski storage at the base, so we could just ski to the Silver Lake base, hand our skis over to the storage staff, and then walk across the street back to the Chateaux. The Chateaux also provides ski storage in the garage next to the lobby, so that is also very convenient.

My husband and I stayed in a Standard Hotel Room. The room size was alright, but I think it was quite dark at night (very typical problem in a lot of hotel rooms worldwide). The powder room was much brighter than the bedroom itself. The furnitures were mostly wooden, kinda old-fashioned style. There was a fireplace in the room, which could be easily turned on/off by a switch. It's probably better not to leave the fireplace on overnight 'cuz we left it on on the first night, and I woke up in the middle of the night due to the intolerable heat! Also, it could get extremely dry inside the room, so do bring some water and some more lotion if you want. For the rate that the Chateaux charges, I think they should at least provide complimentary water in the rooms ...

The Chateaux provides free wireless internet, so if you have your own laptop, you can go online freely.

Some of our friends stayed in a 3 bedroom/3 bath unit at the Chateaux, and it was very nice. There were 3 separate rooms, each with its own entrance, and at the same time they were all connected and share a kitchen/dining/living area. The electronics and appliances were all very nice in the unit (ie, LCD/plasma TVs, Subzero fridge, large kitchen sink, etc), but the furnitures were still kinda old-fashioned.

We had a big breakfast at the hotel every morning. They served omelette, cereals, some hot cooked food, salads, various bread selections and also fruits.

There's also a ski rental shop next to the lobby, so you could just rent your equipment there.

The service at the Chateaux was very good. Everyone from the receptionist to the waiters/waitresses were all very courteous.

The Chateaux is just a short drive (about 10 mins) from Park City, where there were more restaurants and supermarkets etc. As long as you have a car there, it's pretty easy to go around places.

  • Disliked — Rather old-fashioned furnitures

Stayed at the Chateaux at Silver Lake Deer Valley. The room was pleasant and with a fireplace. We had a regular room with a kitchenette and adequate sink/counter space. Nice view from the window--- facing the ski lifts.

The best part is the location!- a short walk to the slope-- very convenient. In addition, a shuttle van service is provided into Park City for dinner.

Incidentally, Our flight got cancelled due to snow back east and the hotel staff was quite accomodating and arrangements for an extra night stay were made; they were even helpful in assisting us in finding airliine phone numbers to rebook our flight..

As an aside: Had a great week skiing at Deer Valley. The ski resort is one of the best- very child friendly with a great ski school not to mention some of the best food I've had on mountain skiing.
