“Wonderful home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

It was great to have a full kitchen to use so we didn't have to go out and eat every night. It was ridiculously comfortable. We had a 1 bedroom suite - perfect for 2 people spending some time.

Restaurants nearby were a bit expensive and limited.

Alcohol in Utah can only be bought at state liquor stores!

Awesome concert nearby - LOVED this place!
Nice hiking if you take the skilift up and walk down.

I recently vacationed at The Canyons ski resort and used the childcare at the Westgate Resort for my 3 yo and 5 yo. My kids had a great experience and were kept busy with great arts and crafts. when I went to pick them up they had lots of pretty projects to bring home. My daughter especially loved the soccer ball piggy bank that she painted. Linda and Lexie took care of the kids. My 5 yo did not want to ski and only wanted to go to the day care program. Thanks for making their experience so wonderful. We will definitely use you again.

There is so much to do, The kids love the indoor outdoor pool, my wife loves the services at the Serenity Spa, me and they boys have been tearing up the mountainside. The rooms are spacious, the resort is quiet, and very well maintained. The resort also gives you a few different places in which to dine. They offer a sports bar, which can be loud and crowded at times, but from what I hear, they have some really good burgers. If you feel like dining in a very low key restaurant, then i would suggest "the edge" steakhouse. From very choice cuts of tenderloin, to seafood platters, and they serve these little treats of bread/pastry called a "popover." They are crunchy on the outside, topped with cheese, and have a wonderful warm flaky center. The servers at Edge were very professional, the restaurant was very warm and inviting, with a style on its own. Yes, the prices were a bit high, but worth every BITE, We highly recommend if you want a "mouth watering' STEAK, AND A great get away, Westgate is where it's at in {ark City.

Love-love-love Westgate @Park City. Super close to Gondola @Canyons (3min walk and you don't even need to carry your skis, as Westgate Ski service will do it for you), great pool, kids room (if you want to have adult-only dinner, shopping or skiing experience). Price is steep, but try renting through owners. We'll definitely be back!

We stayed in two different two-bedroom units. The first three days we spent in the Bear lodge and the second was in the Moose lodge. They both had advantages, but I thought the bear lodge was preferable for a few reasons. First, the room was brighter. The moose lodge room had a nicer kitchen but it also had the washer dryer out in plain sight next to the door (not in the closet like bear lodge) though. The location of the bear lodge is also very good, because it is close to the lobby (the hotel is huge) and it is close to both the indoor/ outdoor pool, table tennis and sauna. It is also very close to the ski slopes. The downfall to the bear lodge room we were in was the noise from the street. There are trucks and heavy equipment that drive past the window starting at about 6 am. I think they are snow-grooming equipment, but I am not sure. The great thing about the second floor moose lodge room was that it had an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi directly outside the room. We simply went out the back door of the room and were at the pool.

Warning: It is a running joke with guests and staff that the place is huge and confusing. We were constantly asking people for directions. Staff is extremely gratuitous, they often walk you to where you need to go. You are required to go up and down many different levels when walking from one part of the hotel to another. This is because there are bridges or connecting hallways from one building to another. For example, you can walk from the lobby to the bear and moose lodge if you are on the second floor only. If you then want to go from a guest room to the village base area to ski, you will then go up to the fifth floor to walk across the pool to get the building with the ski valet..... but wait, it is not on the fifth floor! You need to go to the sixth floor to ask the ski valet to load up your skis and bring them to the base (you can not call ahead/ in person only), then you will get on the elevator and go down to the ski lockers on the fourth floor to put on your ski boots on. After putting on the boots, you will get back on the elevator and go to the sixth floor to exit the building and walk up one flight of stairs (or the ramp) and about 100 yards and you are at the Red Pine Gondola. It does not sound bad but second floor to fifth floor to sixth floor to fourth floor then back up to sixth floor seems a bit silly.

I would definitely stay here again. The high point is the ski valet, but be aware, you must register your skis in the ski service office BEFORE you ski. The bellman brought our luggage and ski equipment to the room, so they never got registered. At the end of the day we tried to drop off the skis with the valet at the bottom of the hill and were told that he could not take them. You need to be a guest AND have the equipment registered ahead of time.

Everyone at the hotel is very nice. Front desk, bellman, valet, ski services.... everyone.

The only knock on the hotel is that the rooms are starting to show a (little) bit of wear. For example; drains are rusted/ discolored, shower head is loose, piece of drywall dented in next to the toilet paper roll (only size of a quarter). The rooms, however, are by no means run down. In fact, the carpet, kitchen, furniture are all really nice, I just thought it is fair to point out some minor issues in case you are particular about such things.

On Saturday all our keys stopped working, so I would suggest checking your keys every time you leave the room. It will save you the hassle of getting to the room with dead keys.

What a tremendously descriptive review! Thank you so much for that, and for staying with us. We appreciate your accurate and honest feedback of what our resort has to offer. We are addressing the issues you mentioned so that your next stay with us exceeds your expectations! We are currently renovating all of our Bear and Elk rooms, the common areas, pool areas, landscaping and signage throughout the resort. We believe that these improvements will further enhance your vacation experience and assist you in navigating our resort. Additionally, we are in the planning stages to add connectors throughout the resort on level five, which should make traveling in the resort simpler. We encourage you to return this year to see all of the improvements! Thank you again for the great review, we look forward to seeing you again.

A good resort located close to the bottom of the main Gondola at Canyons resort. It is made up of several buildings on different levels which makes navigating the corridors very complicated as they don't all join up on every level and only certain elevator blocks go to certain places. It really does take a while to learn the lay-out - actually you really don't learn the lay-out you just learn the best route to take for where you need to be! So yes it is close to the square by the Gondola but depending on the building or room you're in, you could be in for a very long walk and in need of a compass to get to the boot room and actually out of the building in the right direction! In all seriousness, if you have young kids with tired legs, you may need a stroller to get around inside. There is a boot room (on 4th floor) and a ski valet but it's a bit strange that although you get your own locker, you have to "hand your boots in" at the end of the day if you want them dried - no air in each locker - the staff collect them on big carts and then have the awful job of putting them all back into the right lockers before the morning. Very strange process to me and very labor intensive. You also have to hand your locker key in every night and ask for it again in the morning which seems unnecessary to me also. Then you have to go up 2 floors to the ski room and tell them that you need your skis sending out. In this day and age of technology, one would think the boot room staff could alert the ski room staff to send out skis via computer...Then you wander outside through the square and hang around until your skis are sent out on a cart periodically. I guess it works although not the most efficient process. They also collect your skis at the bottom of the gondola in the evening, which is a nice service.
The rooms and bathrooms are very nice although we were unfortunate enough to have a really awful view. We looked out over an un-made parking lot and because it was not a huge snow year, it was basically a mud field and very unattractive. I was disappointed to have this view. But I rented through VRBO which was managed through an agency and I didn't ask about views...But it did have a nice, usable balcony and we chose a sunny week so that was nice for the non-skier in our party. We had a 2-bed which is a 1-bed apartment plus a 1-bed lock-off studio. Agree with previous reviewer that space is tight in studio part when sofa bed open. You would need a flashlight to get safely to bathroom in the night when the sofa bed is open. The studio is v tight on space. It's fine for two people, but any more than that would be cramped. I personally was very frustrated by the kitchen in the main apartment which was designed to "look good" with large appliances and symmetrical cabinets but the kitchen is very small and the appliances were too big for the space and the cabinets way too small. Practical storage was impossible so we had to leave things out in order to function. I heard this was a feature of the newer buildings (we were in Moose I believe) and the older buildings had different kitchens.
The main reason I chose this hotel over any other in Canyons (since all are really in good locations) was because of the large indoor/outdoor pool. This did not disappoint. I think it is the hotel's best feature for kids. Even nicer is that there is also an adults-only pool and hot-tub (but this is indoors and interior so if you like the snow in your hair you have to use the family ones outdoors). The pool was warm enough and very large. It has large glass doors that can go up or down depending on weather conditions. Lots of good quality loungers and a towel service. Two hot-tubs - one was very small the other was a good size. There is also a recreation room by the pool with ping-pong and a few other games that the kids enjoyed. Also most useful was the small grocery store in the building which also sold alcohol - the only one in the resort . It had good quality food, Boars Head featured strongly. No fresh veggies and it ran out of food frequently so buy it when you see it!
I did not use the spa at Westgate (must admit I went to the one at the Waldorf which was superb). The shuttle was useful but we didn't go far. The whole resort is really walkable so you only really need it to go to the Waldorf if the gondola is closed, or if you go into town. We didn't do this.
One big negative for me was the hard-sell on timeshares. As soon as we arrived we were forced to go to the timeshare desk and listen to salespitch and sign up for a sales talk. You don't need this as soon as you walk through the door when you've spent 12 hours travelling door to door! I wish they wouldn't do that. If I like the building and I'm interested, I'll seek them out.
Agree with others that Sports Bar food not great - only went once but it was not good. Didn't try the other restaurant.
If I went to Canyons again I may consider Westgate because I know what to expect now and it was good quality and decent value (through VRBO though) and the pool is a great thing for the kids. But it didn't bowl me over so I'd be open to suggestions. I didn't comment on the skiing or the resort because that's not what this review is for, but the resort is limited in facilities...

Marvin Jamaican had to come fix the TV and did a wonderful job!
Had to go up 3 floors just to get ice. No room service in a resort that big.
Has only a sports bar & a fine dining, very pricey restaurant that is by reservation only.
The sports bar had the worst service I have ever seen. Bartenders eating behind the bar, waiters coming out of the kitchen with a mouth full of food!
We waited almost 20 minutes before anyone even came to wait on us.
The food was not anything special either!!
