“Best kept secret in Deer Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2008

My children and I stayed at the Goldener Hirsch the weekend of Aug. 1-3 and we couldn't have been happier. This is one of the nicest properties we've stayed at. It is a small boutique hotel with loads of class. From the amazing beds with fabulous down pillows and comforters, to the beautiful furnishings, to the attentiveness of General Manager Kelley Davidson, we were 99% satisfied with our stay. I would have said 100% except that the Goldener Hirsch isn't air conditioned and it was unseasonably hot during our stay, so we were quite warm in our room. However, the hotel provided fans and that did help. But even with the lack of a/c, we were still thrilled with our stay. The hotel is conveniently located to EVERYTHING in Deer Valley so we never even took the car out. We would definitely stay here again.

Our experience at the Goldener Hirsch Inn in Park City, Utah was More Than Wonderful!! The rooms were absolutely beautiful with lovely furniture. The food was more than excellent. And of course, the view from our patio suite was breath-taking. The general manager, Kelley Davidson, was tremendous in making all the guests feel like Kings and Queens ! He was such a nice and gracious host that went out of his way to truly exemplify the meaning of service to each of the guests. His intent was to make each guest have an unforgettable stay. And you know what? He sure did!
My husband is a medical doctor and we travel a lot. You can be assured we WILL return to the Goldener Hirsch Inn in Park City, Utah.

In conclusion, it was an aboluete magnificent! trip!!

We arrived late on a Friday, and although the path to get up the mountain was a little confusing, we quickly located the Goldener Hirsch. The manager of the hotel met us almost immediately after we checked in and asked our names and told us that he would be available to help in any way he could. He made good on this promise several times over the next two days, offering advice and directions to Park City attractions. His attention was flattering but understated - he was a superior host. The staff was also attentive and almost immediately memorized my family and room number; this is a European style hotel where they take the keys from you when you leave and keep them behind the desk. The Grand Suite was a remarkable room, beautiful, unique, clean and kind of quirky, in a good way. We also had private parking under the hotel that was a tad claustrophobic, but still worked fine. They hosted a wedding preparatory party, reception and all details were outstandingly cared for, with no exceptions. This is one of the finest hotels I have stayed at in the world, and the value for the dollar, exceptional.

We just got back to Australia ("the land down under") from our annual pilgrimage to the Goldener Hirsch Inn. As usual, we had a wonderful stay: the staff are courteous and will help with any requirements. The property is ideally situated at Silver Lake Village which is in the center of Deer Valley Ski Resort. This avoids the congestion of the lower altitude Snow Park Village. The Hotel is comfortable with adequate heating and many wood burning fireplaces including one in our suite. The decor is European with authentic traditional furniture. There are a dozen excellent restaurants withing walking distance from the hotel. We mainly dined at the hotel's restaurant. We met many guests at the restaurant who came from all over the Park City area to dine and enjoy apres ski at the Goldener Hirsch Inn. For convenience there is a heated parking deck and we never had trouble driving our two-wheel-drive Hertz Ford Taurus up and down the mountain to the hotels 8100" elevation; there does not seem to be any shortage of salt to put on the roads in the Salt Lake City area to keep them free of snow and ice. We have reserved a room for 2008 and we are confident it will be great stay. Should there be any problems, we know the hotel's management wil be very quick to sort them out for us.

I'll start off by saying I fully agree with the previous reviews of this hotel.... during that time. I've been going to this hotel for many years to ski Deer Valley, and it's always been a great place due to its perfect location to the slope. Now.... it's not even the same hotel.
Where do I even start in describing this experience?

The current management is completely unresponsive to their customers; when we first arrived we couldn't even find a guest services person to help us with our bags.

The elevator since we've arrived smells of either mold, or something else horrible. During our whole stay, it didn’t change.

The breakfast service is now abysmal. What used to be a very nice deal before going out to ski is now worse than a breakfast bar. No one is around to even give you water (which naturally, isn’t available to serve yourself) and each day I went down, the coffee canisters were out.

The current management is also visibly unethical- we had booked our own driver to take us to the airport. Upon getting picked up at the hotel, we soon learned that someone at the hotel received a kickback for referring us to a different company. (The company they used, which showed up 10 minutes before our driver arrived at the hotel, kept breaking down just in the few blocks as we drove away from the hotel!)

The final straw came about when we came back to our room after a day of skiing; we found our door wide open, propped by a towel that was left there by housekeeping.

If at all possible, stay anywhere else but here. For the amount of money you have to pay for a room here, it’s unbelievable how things are. I would stay at a discount chain hotel a half hour away from this location rather than ever staying here again. If you’re looking for a hotel that values their customers and provides quality for the price, check out the stein right next door.

My fiance and I stayed at the Goldener Hirsch in late July. Daytime temps were in ths mid 90's and the entire hotel is without air conditioning. While the rooms were beautiful and otherwise comfortable, the heat was nearly unbearable. All we were provided to combat the sweaty nights was a beat-up fan that did little to cool us off. Our experience here was terrible as a result. It's really too bad, beacuse if the room was cool, this would have been an amazing hotel at an reasonable price.

For literally $25 more per night, our friends stayed at the incredible Stein Erickson next door. Not only were the rooms gorgeous, but they also had air conditioning and thus, were quite comfortable.

Although the room we stayed in was reasonably-priced, it still was quite a bit of money for us to spend and I feel every penny was wasted. I spent many sweaty, sleepless hours cursing the hotel for not disclosing their lack of A/C earlier. In a city that clearly heats up, they need to do a MUCH better job creating a comfortable room for their guests. Seriously, even a Motel 6 has Air Conditioning.

My recommendation - stay here in the cooler months and you'll love it! But, avoid it at all costs in the summer. It's not worth the money.

We had an excellent experience at this inn. It had a great feel- very friendly employees, warm decor (Austrian), newly upgraded bathrooms, yummy beers, great apres ski food and entertainment, great breakfast included in the room rate, great restaurant, easy ski rental/storage and close proximity to the mid-mtn lift. We'd definitely go back in a heart beat.
