“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Just returned from a short stay at The Montage Deer Valley for a business trip. The resort was wonderful. Well appointed rooms and a staff that was clearly dedicated to their guests. I was part of a group of approx 100 guests. The resort handled all of our meals without ever making it seem that we were eating in a group of 100 people.

If you are considering hosting a corporate event, have no reservations, you and your guests will be in wonderful hands.

I would absolutely return for either business or pleasure.

The title says it all. Everything about this place was wonderful. The ambiance was great, the view was amazing, the snow could have been a little better but that isn't Montage's fault :) I ate at the Apex restaurant and had one of the best meals of my life. The Wagyu steak was cooked perfectly and had amazing flavor. It was paired with wine and the pairing was perfect. The service was absolutely incredible. Victoria was one of the nicest and most professional servers I have ever had. I would recommend coming to the Montage just for the service. Make sure you eat at Apex restaurant and ask to sit in Victoria's section.

This may be the best resort experience. First class everything. The rooms are warm, beautiful, and all seem to have a great view. They are quiet, fireplaces, and every amenity you could want. Fantastic gym and spa, great restaurants and bar. Spacious entry and common areas. Best cinammon rolls in the owrld at Buzz in the morning. Wonderful service in the ski rental/storage area. Nothing but First Class at this hotel. If you can afford it you will not be disappointed. Even great for families with kids, with lots of special amenities for them including a game room and in house bowling.

Huge thank you to the staff of this wonderful hotel!!! Taylor and Jess may be the nicest staff we have ever encountered with our 5 year old son. Upon check in, the usual check in gift is a stuffed animal from a sled. My son is a big talker, and he asked tons of questions about all of the animals. When he picked one, Taylor walked us up to our room and endured several more minutes of questioning from my son. After dinner, we returned to our room to find all of the other animals waiting for him, as a gift from Taylor, with a note stating that they missed their buddy! We were blown away.
On our last morning, my son misbehaved at church, so he didn't get to attend the Easter egg hunt at the hotel that Jess had recommended. He was really disappointed, especially when we had to walk through the hunting ground to get to our room. Jess found him on the floor whining and heard what happened. A few minutes later, the Easter bunny sent a basket up to our room for our son, with a personal note saying that he had been missed at the hunt! So incredibly nice, and we all really appreciated those efforts.
This is the kind of personal service that would bring us back to this hotel year after year. Yes, the s'mores are awesome (homemade marshmallows), the location is convenient, the rooms lovely, and the food good, but what makes this hotel stand out is its phenomenal staff! Thank you!

This hotel takes luxury seriously. From when you first pull up, the team is waiting for you in the lobby and they take you directly to your room. There is no need to mess with credit cards etc at the front desk, the check-in is at the room. The programs for families are great. We loved the game room and bowling every night after dinner. The pool is also fantastic with large hot tubs and great pool service. We enjoyed the smores on one afternoon after skiing and they were delicious. The rooms are also well done. We had a slopeside view above the tubing. Everything is electronic. You can turn your stereo and fireplace on from your TV! And of course, the ski in/out location is so convenient and perfect to enjoy Deer Valley. The staff is welcoming and very helpful.

This is our new 'go to' ski resort. We went in February over President's Day weekend which we learned is the busiest ski weekend of the year, however, at Deer Valley, I don't think we waited longer than 45 seconds to get on a lift. Reason being is, Deer Valley limits the number of lift tickets they sell so the runs are never crowded - that was priceless within itself. The runs are all we groomed and we lucked out with the most perfect powder snow all weekend. The Montage is a ski in ski out resort - there is literally a run you can get on when you walk out the door. There are also two lifts right outside the door as well in case you want to change mountains. The resort itself is fabulous - the service was stellar. We felt welcomed the second the valet opened our car door. Check-in is very classy, you are met in the lobby and walked to your hotel room - no waiting in line and you are checked in in your room and then given a tour. I liked that a lot - nice touch. The rooms are very spacious and very elegantly appointed. Very nice big comfy beds and large nice bathrooms. The fireplace was also enjoyed immensely. The food is of course pricier at the resort but I really didn't think it was too out of control. The food at the restaurants is also really good - my travel partner said he had one of the best meals of his life at Apex. There are so many wonderful things about this hotel - one of our favorite activities was after a day of skiing to sit in front of the huge fire place in the great hall and enjoy a glass of wine. This place is just top notch and worth every dime you spend on it. Now, the biggest highlight of all is this ski shop. So we got measured the day we arrived and got assigned our skis, poles and helmets. The next morning when we went to go ski - they actually bring your boots (heated boots by the way) out and put them on you. They have great communication because right when you walk outside, they have your poles and skis waiting for you! They'll also take and put anything in your locker for you. We'd come back at lunch, they'd take our skis off for us and take our poles. While we were having our boots removed they bring you hot cider and a cookie. There is a really great restaurant in the Montage right next to the ski shop so you just pop in have a quick bite and come back out to have your heated boots put back on! I really can't do that enough justice - they truly truly spoil you at the Montage so much so that I don't think any other experience will do!

We also used the spa services and had wonderful massages. They have a great gym with lots of equipment, a lovely lap pool and a jacuzzi. We ate off property twice, but we decided next time we would just stay at the resort and eat - the food is just as good and the prices are comparable. We will definitely be back as we both agreed that this was the best!

Apologies for the delay on this review - my family did its first ski vacation last Christmas and spent 5 nights in a beautiful suite at The Montage. For families electing between this property and the new St. Regis let me be perfectly clear: there is NO comparison notwithstanding what you may read out there. I mean none. How do I know? We checked into the St. Regis and when the property did not deliver the room we had reserved months in advance we checked ourselves right back out and drove to the Montage where luckily there was one suite available in the entire Hotel. And sometimes you just get lucky. Email me if you have more specific questions about this comparison.

Location: Perfect and picturesque. Close to town (but not too close) and ski in and ski out at the most difficult part of the mountain (so if you have kids in ski school you will not utilize it but available for others). St. Regis right where the ski school is so that is certainly convenient but 15 min drive just fine from Montage. Shuttles plentiful but admittedly during high season can struggle to get to you expeditiously at all times so be prepared to be patient.

Rooms: Great. Suites are spacious and well designed. Views great as well. Amenities modern. Dining room table for those who want to eat in and look out the window. Beds comfortable. Bathrooms great with double sinks.

Food: Pub downstairs great for families (odd, right?!). Full game room and bowling alley and nice selection of beers on tap! Main restaurant just fine - breakfast buffet quite good. Dinner menu bit heavy for our liking but we are in Utah after all where game dominates menus. Sushi restaurant had just opened and they were overwhelmed so very slow service but presumably they will improve by next visit. Main lobby area for food (2nd floor) is beautiful with a big fireplace and very comfortable for drinks and light snacks but everyday the service here (unless you went to the bar itself) was beyond miserable - slow, wine spillage, the works - sure this will improve but head's up. Shame because great area to unwind after day on slopes.

Amenities: Great for families - esp around holidays - Santa, huge gingerbread house, s'mores daily. Outdoor heated pools and jacuzzi (I didn't really get the swimming in 20 degree snowy weather but my daughter sure loved it). Stuffed animals for kids at all times.

Service: I commented a bit on this re the lobby area but other than that issue we found the service to be friendly, professional and very much wanting us to enjoy our stay. Whereas the St. Regis front of house did not seem phased when we checked out after 20 minutes there, the Montage actively behaved in such a manner that they wanted us to become regulars - that is more than just casual polite service - that is professionalism and they have it.

I didn't give 5 stars because not sure I ever have just yet and I see that as perfection which the Montage is not but hopefully for readers who have read my other reviews they will see that this is about as good as I have reviewed and would do 4.5 if I were allowed. Go and enjoy this wonderful part of America and stay at the best property in the area.

Room Tip: Suites are way to go - all have good views
