4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Montage provided an exceptional luxury resort experience and would have been 5 out of 5 if it had not been for a few lapses in services. However, there are many advantages (and a few disadvantages) to choosing Montage over other Park City resorts (e.g., Waldorf, St. Regis) that I will highlight here.

Positives:

1. Breakfast at Apex restaurant (e.g., huevos rancheros is fresh and clean) - spring for breakfast package!
2. Pools (outdoor and indoor) - better loungers and pools than Waldorf)
3. Housekeeping (superior to Waldorf, Park City)
4. Proximity to Deer Valley ski resort and hiking trails (also a plus of St. Regis)
5. Game room
6. Smores and fire pits
7. Relaxing lounge areas
8. Fireplace in guest room (situated centrally and usefully compared to Waldorf)
9. Balcony for guest rooms (each room has a balcony including lower room categories compared to Waldorf and St. Regis - must upgrade)
10. Turn-down service (chocolate caramels were heavenly)
11. Bathroom (huge tub and shower)
12. Robes and slippers

What the other resorts offer over the Montage:

1. Champagne sabering (St. Regis) nightly
2. Location to Main Street (Sky Lodge right in the heart of the action) and Waldorf is quite convenient - at Montage you can take a shuttle but plan to wait on both ends
3. Repose room (i.e., Golden Door Spa @ Waldorf, Park City)
4. Views (every room at the St. Regis offers an unobstructed mt. view); Montage has rooms that have obstructed views - the roof blocked our view of the valley and we were directly over the valet on frontage drive
5. Montage is cooler than other Park City Resorts (~ 8,300 ft)
6. Parking (valet is required) is $28/day which is more expensive than other PC resorts

Other highlights of the trip included friendly service from Amber at the front desk, meeting the "mascot" and playing Ms. Pac-man, shuffleboard, and other games at the pub. Although some of the staff may have been newer to their positions and thus were still a bit awkward, Montage is a comfortable resort.

A few constructive comments for mgt.:

1. It seems like some guests are smoking on patios and leaving behind cigarette butts. I'm pretty sure this is discouraged, but I did find several on the patio off of my guestroom.
2. There were a few yellow jackets and flies by the pool despite the lack of food on the deck
3. Please warn guests who are booking packages that they may end up with obstructed views. When we placed our reservations by phone we would have been glad to pay more for a better room. It did not seem possible to get a more preferred view despite the fact that the hotel was very low capacity (shoulder season Sunday & Monday night). We were not sure how to handle this once we arrived at the resort despite placing the request.

Overall we enjoyed our stay tremendously and can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a breakfast package; ask for a room higher than level 7 facing the valley for a be...

Is there a Concierge of the Year Award? If so, I nominate Jenessa at MDV. Our four kids voted for a family weekend at the Montage instead of presents and parties to celebrate all of our birthdays. Thank you, Jenessa, and everyone here for the thoughtful, really cute birthday banner, balloons, cakes and treats, and the gorgeous upgrade. Everything little thing is perfect and even though it's all first class, it's so kid-friendly. lSo wonderful to be back! Great concierge and service are a dying art in the US - you are super stars! Already planning our next trip.

I stayed here for a business meeting and the experience was wonderful. My room was quite possibly the nicest hotel room I have ever had. The bed and bedding were excellent and the bathroom was outstanding. The staff was very attentive and made sure I felt welcome. I was here in July, I can only imagine what the place is like during the ski season.

Our two rooms were on the "ground" floor looking onto the valley below. Connected by a hallway which we could close off, the fireplace, couch and amazing bathroom couldn't be beat. The air conditioning had some issues and never really cooled down (we were here in the summer months).

All the restaurants and activites surrounding the resort were stunning, and I kept talking about the view!

I found the beds too soft and had difficulty sleeping, but others may love that sink in quality of a big fluffy bed.

We had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful resort this summer.
Just by looking at pictures anyone can see how gorgeous it is but to experience the level of service ... Exceeds expectations. Bell Staff was fabulous.

My husband and I stayed at Montage Deer Valley back in June for 5 nights on a company sponsored incentive trip. As soon as we pulled up to the porte cochere, we knew that we were in for the experience of a lifetime. We were greeted warmly, and had our bags taken by bell services. We were shown to our room, and while it was beautiful, I was disappointed that we had no functioning balcony. One word to the gentleman who escorted us (Mark? Matt?), and he was out the door. Within minutes, we received a phone call that they had another room for us. I can honestly say that it was one of the nicest hotel rooms we've ever stayed in. Beautiful bathroom with gigantic shower and rain shower head, jacuzzi tub, and heated floors, gorgeous views of the mountains through the double doors and off the balcony, and, hands down, THE most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Also loved tht the controls to all of the lights and AC go through the TV.

The property is stunning, inside and out. Firepits burning 24 hours a day made for a lovely morning coffee experience, and a cozy s'mores snack location in the late afternoon. Outdoor pool and hot tub were beautiful, and the fitness center and indoor pool area was one of the nicest I've been in. We missed spin class one morning, but the lovely girl working that day kindly set up bikes for us on the outdoor verandah, and loaned us her ipod and dock so that we could have our own private class overlooking the gorgeous mountains and valley in the distance. WOW. Who does that? Super impressive.

All meals were excellent, and service was beyond expectation. We especially liked ordering from the restaurant while taking in some rays at the outdoor pool one day. Just a curious question about whether there was outdoor wait service led to the hostess immediately getting us menus and following us to our longe chairs to take our order. I'm still not sure that there was actually supposed to be pool service, but there was for us simply because we desired it. Whenever passing an employee in the hallway or restaurant, they would smile kindly and step aside to let us pass before continuing on their way. If we had a question, or even LOOKED like we might have a question, they would drop whatever they were doing to assist us in any way possible.

Halfway through our stay, I sustained a freak injury while attending an activity set up by our company. When we returned to the hotel that afernoon, the gentleman at the front entrance immediately got us a wheelchair to take up to the room. They then set up private transportation for me to go to the nearest ER. When we returned that evening, we had missed the dinner banquet set up for our group. The staff offered to have anything we wanted off of the room service menu sent up to our room at our requested time. Multiple employees came by to ask what had happened, how I was feeling and to see if I needed anything.

A few tips: Be sure to look for the resort mascots, two gorgeous St. Bernards that travel the common areas greeting guests, and the front desk has a basket of Montage branded stuffed animals for the kids. We were even allowed to take two home to our children. Oh, and a word of caution; the resort sits at an elevation of 8,300 ft. If you are from a sea-level location, be careful. Read the in-room information booklet with advice on how to acclimate to a high elevation, and follow it. It took us at least 3 days to feel "normal", and we are active, healthy and fairly fit individuals.

Do not even think twice about staying here. This property is first-class in every sense. We will most definitely be returning with our children for a ski vacation in the future. Thank you, Montage, for such a wonderful experience, and keep up the excellent work.

Room Tip: Any room with a balcony will afford you beautiful views.

The Montage is a great boutique family owned hotel chain. I have stayed numerous times at the Laguna, Ca property and have eaten a few times at Scarpetta in the Beverly Hills, Ca location. The Deer Valley property blew the other two away! Granted they are all set in different locations (beach, city, mtns) I fell in LOVE with this property. Montage is located about 10 minutes by car above Park City Center. This makes it easy to have some night life if you so please. We stayed in the off season and it was wonderful. We were surrounded by trees changing color for the fall, gorgeous mountain air and a great staff who was there to help with whatever we needed. Our room was fab and had a HUGE bathroom(very important for me), sumptuous shower that could easily fit 4 adults, fireplace, large balcony overlooking the valley below, gorgeous "restoration hardware" type furniture and colors. Apex restaurant was great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is a 2 lane bowling alley on the lower level with a game room and bar with comfort food that is pretty fun. I can't wait to come back this winter for some skiing. Although Deer Valley does not allow Snowboarding, the hotel offers free shuttle service to Park City and The Canyons for my other half. See you soon Montage Deer Valley! Also, the spa is AMAZING! HUGE, clean and beautiful!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of the valley below. So gorgeous!
