Awesome location, top-notch deals always available, great owner [old-school integrity] with the [now all to rare], "customer is always right" attitude.

The Old Trapper Inn is a B&B located next to the Old Trapper Motel, and once was the Moses Thatcher home. The rooms are located on the second floor, reached by a spiral staircase with original oak banister. Each has a separate theme and different amenities. We had the Treehouse room, which is more of a suite, with a separate area with loveseat, television, sink, coffee maker and small fridge. It's spacious and comfortable. The bedroom is reached by going through a door and down three steps, which leads me to believe that it was once the back porch. It includes a 62" big screen t.v. with VCR and DVD. It also has a small deck with table and chairs and a chaise lounge. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
Be aware that the "Breakfast" part of the B&B is two gift cards to a restaurant a mile or so away. It's a great local diner, but don't expect to have a lazy breakfast in bed. On the other hand, if that's what you want, you could bring bagels, etc., with you and use the cards for lunch or dinner.
I have mixed feelings about lovely old mansions being cut up into individual suites. On the one hand, we get to stay in unusual and interesting houses; on the other, it pretty much destroys the integrity of the building. The Old Trapper Inn is no exception. Sadly, the "renovations" have been done on the cheap. After a few hours, you can't help but notice the unpainted chipboard and Home Depot economy counters and unfinished sections underneath counters.
The toiletries provided are also extremely low end, and there were no facial tissues, so bring your own. Also, a microwave would be nice.

  • Liked — It's in a historic home with all of the charm that implies
  • Disliked — The cheap materials used
