Great location near Zion and Bryce. Great food in the hotel and in town. Stayed 3 days. We wouldn't stay anywhere else for our hiking adventures in the area. Great value. One-of-a-kind.

The Parry Lodge is the gem of Kanab. If you like history, esp. that of Old Hollywood, you will really enjoy it. The property is quaint with an Old Barn showing Western movies nightly. The atmosphere sends me back to the days of drive-in movies and simpler times. The pool area is beautiful (I've always found the pool to be spotless) and love sitting by it late at night when everyone else is asleep. Just me and the stars. The rooms as mentioned below have the names of Old Western stars who have stayed there during filming. They are still dated and hopefully they will someday redo them without losing the charm or the history of the place. I am never a fan of comforters in hotel rooms and hope that they will follow the direction of the newer hotels that offer layered sheets without the comforter. The rooms definitiely need updating but the rates are extremely reasonable. I shall return.

We stayed here for an unexpected extra night in Kanab because we were adopting a dog at Best Friends and they accepted dogs for sleepovers. BF suggested it as a "middle of the road" motel, and we met many of the people at BF for volunteer vacations who were staying there. The lobby and restaurant have a lot of character, and it looked like a cool place to stay. The older man who was at the desk was clearly very proud of its history, and he had a lot of character, too. My kids (8 and 11) loved the look of the place and the promise of the free old movie to be shown that night.

Unfortunately, the room was musty smelling and hadn't been cleaned well. The dog (which we did adopt) immediately found leftover kibble from the previous occupant. The kibble, though brown and the same color as the carpet, was not that hard to see, so you had to wonder how well they had really vacuumed. We had to leave the a/c on all night to keep the musty smell at a minimum.

I didn't think it was that great of a rate at $84 + $10 for the dog, even considering that we'd stayed at Shilo Inn the night before for about 30% more. I even asked the BF volunteers what rate they were paying, and it was the same without the dog fee. The one advantage was that the room was smelly and dirty enough that I didn't worry about the dog messing anything up.

There does not appear to be wireless internet service except in the lobby. Because it's an old ranch-style motel, this means that most of the time you are a good hike from the lobby.

It was really quite unfortunate because they could really have made this into a top motel and a really enjoyable place. As other reviewers have noted, it doesn't seem to have been updated since its heyday, or at least since the 1950s or '60s. Being old doesn't have to mean rundown, however. It's possible that we got a lesser quality room because we had the dog (we asked for a pet-friendly room and they have certain ones reserved for that), but in that case I would expect a much better rate.

I loved this hotel. it looked good, had loads of character and I loved the 'movie' theme. We stopped in the same room as Frank Sinatra had and I went along to watch the western in the barn. The rooms are pretty standard motel rooms and were very clean. The pool is also good and the Breakfast is worth paying for.
