This exterior corridor motel is located on the main street in Kanab. There was adequate free parking. Check-in was quick and friendly. The Aikens Lodge is an old-style motel that still uses regular keys and paper sign-in forms, but it has been meticulously maintained and was very clean. The Aikens Lodge is all non-smoking, a trend I’d love to see become universal.
The smallish room contained two queen beds. The painted walls were decorated with framed art. Furnishings included a chest of drawers, a single night table, a tall desk with two stools, a refrigerator and a hair dryer. The small flat-panel TV was mounted facing the first bed but did not swivel, so occupants of the second bed had to watch at an angle. The Wi-Fi connected easily and speeds were fine. A computer was available for guest use in the office.
The bathroom had a separate room for the tub and toilet, which is nice if someone wants to use the bathroom or take a shower while someone else is using the vanity. The only downside is that the vanity area was open to the bedroom, so any light or sounds could wake a sleeping person. The vanity was about 3 feet wide, so space was limited.
The air conditioner kept the fan on continuously as the compressor cycled. This is much better than the usual setup where the fan goes off with the compressor making an abrupt change in the noise level, which can awaken occupants.
There was no breakfast offered, or coffeemaker in the room, but there was free coffee in the lobby. We opted to have breakfast at the nearby Houston’s Trail’s End Restaurant.
Overall, the Aikens Lodge was very clean, quiet and comfortable, though my wife found the old style room and furnishings less to her liking. I’d certainly stay again, but my wife would probably opt for something more modern.
