Owner description: Dinosaurs once roamed here. Their fantastic remains are still visible embedded in the rocks. Today, the mountains, desert and untamed rivers flowing in deep canyons, support an array of life. Petroglyphs hint at earlier cultures. Later, homesteaders and outlaws found refuge here. Whether your passion is science, adventure, history or scenery, Dinosaur offers much to explore.

“Interesting place but not very informative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

This is my second visit to this National Monument. My first one was back in 1993. I can't say that anything really changed. The Quarry Building is new. You need a shuttle to go up there. (In 1993, you just drive up there.) I found the bones to be interesting but there isn't enough information I thought to educate. The same with the trail around the area. Not much on educating the hikers on what make each of these trails interesting. It a lot of walking in the hot sun in August for what??

I also did the tour of Cub Creek Road. It proves to be a pretty drive. At the end is Josie's Ranch that proves to be mildly interesting. There are some petroglyphs along this road, interesting rock formations like Turtle Rock or Elephant Toe Butte. Sound of Silence trail should not be done in August unless you do so in the late afternoon. There is no shade along the trail. Kind of rough hike as further you get away from the road. Its not a nature walk that is for sure. Bring water!!

Overall, I found Dinosaur National Monument to be interesting but lacking some real detail information To anyone who enjoyed geology, this place should provide more of a real interest.

“It is the reason you are likely there.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

Dino bones and lots of them. New quarry building. Lots of petroglyphs. Fun hikes. Long and short. If you do a float trip it will include a voucher to get you into the park for a week following the trip.

“The wall alone is woth the drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

There is not really a lot for the casual toursit to see and do at dinosaur national monument. However, the quarry wall is well worth the drive. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. From the visitors center you can continue about 10 miles into the park and see petrogliphs and a homestead cabin. There are a few hikes but not much else. To see more, you have to drive out and around- a long way. The quarry is close to Vernal and well worth the time it takes to get out to it.

“Interesting and Educational”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

The Quarry was fascinating to view the actual bones and very educational. The shuttle runs every 15 minutes to take you to the quarry, which was really interesting. There is also a movie running at the Visitor Center which gives more details. The park is interesting to drive thru, however, it would be my preference to come back and do the river run down it to really see it all.
