“Not what it used to be”

Red Mountain Spa Resort

I had high expectations as a return guest to Red Mountain but was overall disappointed with the experience. First, one of the best things about the place are the morning hikes. But they no longer offer the Trekker 3 (the most intense) hikes every day. They are only 3 days a week now and the trekker 2 hikes are no comparison - they are essentially strolling along talking about plants. This was a major disappointment. Second, pets are now allowed and despite the property only being about 40% full, I had two barking dogs in the rooms on either side of me. Pets should NOT be allowed at a spa of all places which is about relaxing and no stress. To listen to barking dogs left in the rooms all day was not relaxing and many guests were displeased as the barking echoed out over the propertly. I really couldn't believe it. Third, too many men now. It used to be very much a women's getaway and having so many men there really changes the feel of the place. Every time I turned around there was another man in the hammocks, bumping into me in exercise classes or talking loudly in the spa. Women want to go to a spa to relax and not worry about how they look. Fourth, the place needs to be better about actually enforcing their supposed no cellphone policy. Tables on either side of me at dinner would have people talking away on their phones and even on the hikes! That's incredibly inconsiderate of other guests and not in keeping again with relaxation. And lastly, many activities that used to be free are now pay activities which was quite disappointing (especially given how expensive the place is). Not sure whether I will go back again.

“Nice down to earth hiking and spa”

Nice overall experience. Great destination for those who want lots of activities to do.

Very hot this time of year but you get acclimated to it.

The am hikes were nice. Did both Trekker 1 and 2. With 1, you enjoy the scenery and learn more, and with 2 its a better workout and less time to smell the cactuses so to speak.

Classes were for the most part great, like Equinox/Sports Club LA great, with the exception of a few. Something called the hydrochallenge was especially bad; it was just too chaotic and not a good workout). Loved, loved, loved the stretching classes as it introduced me to the FOAM ROLLER, ooh ahhh, a must.

Food was good. Not sure all things were super healthy, like the cookies at lunch (which were very yummy but probably not low fat)
Dinner was good, the only thing I didn't like was the Trout with amandine which tasted like it had gone bad. (bleh!) The BBQ pork medallions were delicious. The waitresses seemed inexperienced as others have posted but all were sweet and nice.

Spa was a good deal. I agree that the bathroom area is probably too small, with only 1 toilet and 2 showers, but not a problem this time of year. The relaxation area was nice but wish they had emphasized soft voices. Even the therapist yell out names! (the banana chip snack was yummy, but a high fat snack that is especially noisy)

Stayed in the residences section in the King Villa Suite which was worth the money for the extra living room with great teddy bear material covered sofa and kitchenette. An additional perk of the suite is the washer and dryer (so you can wash your grimey hiking clothes daily). The A/C was central air and not noisy. The maid service was so-so. They made the bed and hung up towels but hard to say if they gave us fresh linens and towels (may be the in "green" thing some hotels do now). Also had its own outdoor gated pool. Noticed children in this area.

The fitness rooms were nice. They should have longer pools though for the people who like swimming laps and a more oasis like pool for those who like to lounge. These were just basic rectangular pools on the smallish side with lounge chairs and umbrellas. Very local town rec center type of pool but not as big.

Weird that we didn't get a tour when we checked in. Would have been helpful. But the property is small and by the 2nd day you can navigate it easily.

The fellow spa goers were an especially nice bunch, easy to make friends especially during the hikes.

All in all a nice spa trip that was easy to plan. Would come again.

My husband and I stayed for two days not knowing how we would like our first spa experience. Red mountain spa made it very easy to love. The surroundings are clean, calm, peaceful and friendly. There was almost too much to choose from in terms of exercise/stretch classes. We felt like we had to try everything while were there for such a short time. Next time, I would definitely try to stay at least three days. The food was really great-very healthful yet yummy. The only complaint was that the air conditioner in our room and the fan in the bathroom was a bit on the loud side.

“Camp for Adults”

Red Mountain Spa Resort

May 30, 2008

It was a choice between Red Mountain and a Backroads hiking trip, not another spa, and I decided to try something different and go here. I loved it, especially the hiking program. Everyone is very friendly and the morning hikes and communal dining table option make it easy for a solo traveler to meet people. Southern Utah is a beautiful place to hike and if you're there for more than a couple of days, make sure you take the day-trip to Zion and hike Angel's Landing. Food is good-to-excellent. However, waitstaff could use some additional training. The rooms are nice though I do agree with another reviewer's pillow comment. Spa treatments were wonderful. I will definitely go back.

I just recently returned from Red Mountain Spa, where I spent a long Memorial Day weekend soaking up the sun and enjoying the wonderful amenities the destination spa provides. It was my third visit, I have been there once before the remodel in 2004 and stayed again in 2007, when the property was recently renovated. It is a great place to mother-daughter retreats, couple's getaways and girlfriends' weekends! If you would like to take some time to find yourself and spend some alone time in the beautiful red rocks, Red Mountain is a safe, confortable palce to stay when traveling solo. There are tons of activities to do that are included in your room fee (ex. kickboxing, yoga, pilates, aqua strength, etc.) and there are daily hikes you can participate in that are also free of charge. For people who love to take advantage of the free amenities any spa offers, Red Mountain gives you many choices and allows you to not even spend a single additional dime while staying there. Of course, if you would like to do more than just what the spa offers, you can take numerous excursions and adventures. These include visiting Zion National Park, going bike riding through the Snow Canyon National Park, going horse back riding or mountain climbing...the list goes on and on and on. Although these are additional charges, they are priced decently and are always greatly organized and well-executed.

If you are looking for more than just the the typical spa experience, Red Mountain is the place to go. Not only is there tons of fun things to do, the food is tremendously delicious (and not to mention extremely healthy!) and the grounds are very comfortable and relaxing. I highly recommend this place to any spa-goer!!
