Hard to find, even though it's located in the middle of main street. But find it !!!
The first review is about right. From the outside it looks like an authentic western saloon, but then when you step inside, it does feel a bit like a brothel. Nice warm and comfortable feel (not that I go into that many bordellos). The owner, "Jai" welcomed us, and spent some time talking to us, giving us great information on the area and on things to do. What an amazingly interesting character.
The menu is as interesting as the design of the building. It's THE most eclectic menu I have ever seen. "Jai" describes his food as "International Peasant food" and I love the description and the accuracy. There's something from everywhere. India, Australia, England, France, Germany, Japan, Hungary, Italy... They even had Moroccan spiced lamb shanks, though this was a special.
The service was good, though friendliness leads knowledge here. But I prefer that anyway. We were led towards sharing a kangaroo appetizer, and some Dutch specialty called "bitter-balls". Both were amazing. My husband and I had to share our entrees too, since neither of us had tried Coq au vin before or the Malaysian Pork. Both were divine, and we are going back very soon to work our way through the menu. We didn't have room for dessert, but we will pace ourselves a little better next time. They also have live jazz music on Friday and Saturday nights. If only they had rooms !!!
