“Great snowmobiling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

My two sons (19.5 and 14) and I came up for an afternoon of snowmobiling. We hand no previous experience. The rental process was easy, quick and informative. We took one single and one double, as the age limit for driving on your own is 16.
The lodge has a large parcel of land that is private and you can ride on a 20+ mile loop that take about 2 hours. You ride on your own pace, without being rushed or slowed down by a guide or other riders so it is realy nice.
The views are out of the world. We could see for miles around, several peaks and vallys, beatiful.
There are several locations on the way where you can go off the groomed trail and play a bit with the machine although for those who are not experienced,I would caution that it is like riding a three wheeler ..... Not too steady.
After two hours we controlled the machines a bit better and had some fun before returning to the lodge. There is a flat area a couple of mile at the end of the official trail where you can go free.
As all snowmobile rides, it is a bit pricy but worth it.
The girls at the counter were great, as they didn't charge me for my 14 YO rider( normaly extra) and waived our 30 min coming in late.
Definitly gave us a good feeling coming back.
Highly recommended!

We expected a nice hotel for the price and we were disappointed. The outside was a nice lodge as you would expect from the rustic location. The upgraded room was furnished in a rustic decor which was quaint and nice. The electric fireplace was nice but not really authentic and the room was very small for a $100+ room. The beds were comfortable, the staff was nice and the views were wonderful.
We drove the 20 minutes(each way) for a disappointing dinner at the Spin Cafe in Heber. We should have stayed in Heber.

I'm so torn how to review Daniels Summit Lodge. The lodge was beautiful, the common area was grand, everything was very nice, until we experienced the room. We paid for an upgraded room, which gave us a king sized bed and a view to the forest in the back (which was better than facing the highway in the front) with rocking chairs on the porch. Everything looked beautiful, but it seemed all the niceties were purely superficial. 1st, the spa was too hot, couldn't even sit in it for more than a minute or two (along with all the other 10 people there-not just me). Next, the room - the shower temperature was extremely touchy, freezing cold to burning hot with a 1/4 inch turn and nothing in between, when the heater would come on in the middle of the night it was loud and would wake me up, the TV selection was poor at best - 3 different ESPN's and a couple of local stations. If you were interested in enjoying your warm drink in the morning enjoying the view, be prepared to enjoy it with every other room-there was absolutely no privacy. The balcony next door is probably 2 feet away from yours. Then there were the "notes" in the room from hotel management - these weren't bad, but there were so many it became quite comical. Ex. if cleaning your face, use the brown towel....be sure to set the room temperature to this degree during this season...no cooking in the room...be sure to do this and be sure to do that....like I said, not a problem, just a little odd for a "nicer" hotel.

The good: The bed was comfortable, the views were beautiful, the staff was kind. The breakfast at the restaurant was excellent. We also went on a 2 hour guided horseback ride. The guide was excellent and the views were beautiful (it was fall and the colors was blazing).

Room Tip: If you're going, I would go for one facing the forest in the back. The front is fine pretty as...

The room was very nice. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. We got a king room with a jetted tub. The room was well furnished and had a gas fireplace. The patio had rocking chairs and faced the mountains and forest. It was a very nice and quiet weekend get away

Room Tip: The rooms on the backside of the lodge are the best to get. You are looking into the mountains and...

Daniels Summit Lodge is about 30 minutes outside of Heber, Utah on Highway 40. It's sits alongside the highway, pretty much by itself, nestled into the mountains around it. In addition to the Lodge, there's a restaurant and a small store, but we ever used either one. Our room has a great king-sized bed and a small deck that provided a great view of the fall colors (aspens and maples). My wife and I were there for a workshop, so meals were provided, and they were tasty and plentiful, but the best part of the lodge isn't the lodge itself but its location. We were within a hundred yards of some excellent trails that led up into the mountains and gave us great views of Strawberry Resevoir in the distance and the mountains in all directions.

OK, but the lodge itself is more than fine. It's clearly a western decor in its architecture and decor, lots of wood, lots of outdoor scenes, a roomy lobby. The rooms have flat screen TVs and comfortable bathrooms. The bed, linen, towels, were all what you would expect, but I'm still dreaming of that crisp, cool mountain air and those stunning autumn vistas!

One downside---the workout room is little more than a closet, and the equipment is in terrible condition---so plan on getting your exercise outside.

If you're looking for a quiet mountain getaway, this is the place.

Room Tip: Get a room on the backside of the lodge, away from the highway. They're much quieter and offer...

Recently US 40 was closed by the Whisky Fire. Our car was near the front of the line as we drove west, when state troopers closed the road, so we opted to have dinner at the Daniels Summit Lodge restaurant. The meal was fine, the restaurant service above average.
Access to the restrooms was not so fine, as you might expect, lots of others followed our lead, and stopped for either a meal or use of the restrooms, as the road was closed for hours. A line ensued. Many restaurant patrons tried to go use the facilities in the Summit Lodge adjacent to the restaurant. The manager on duty (I wish we had gotten his name) opted to leave his facilities closed.
A poor decision. Based on what I would consider poor public relations, I would not patronize this facility.

This was exactly the type of accommodation we were looking for as we were sightseeing in this area of Utah. It was "off the beaten" path so there were no dining options other than at their restaurant but the restaurant was quite nice and not unreasonably priced. Visiting in the summer, it was almost like we had the place to ourselves.

The room was very large and comfortable with two comfy chairs, a king size bed, a fireplace (the kind you flip the switch to turn on but it does provide some heat) and a balcony overlooking the wooded hillside. The bathtub was huge and deep and was great for a relaxing soak. There was also a pool and hot tub but we did not use those facilities.

Mostly I enjoyed the ambiance of the lodge, decorated with wooden carved bears (life size or larger). There were a lot of gathering spaces in the lodge for those who were traveling with others.

There was a 3 mile trail from the lodge that my husband explored and enjoyed. It is probably used much more as a cross country ski trail rather than a hiking trail however.

When we checked in and when we checked out, the only person on duty was busy on the phone so it took a while to be waited on.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the woods
