“A surprise in the middle of nowhere.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2014

We were on a bicycling vacation so had little ability to "move on down the road" to the next town. Hanksville is a pretty small place and we thought our accommodation choices would be slim. But we were pleasantly surprised at the Whispering Sands. Clean, comfortable beds, internet, and well decorated rooms. A real gem in the desert.

Clean, comfortable, efficient check in. Adequate breakfast included at Stan's Burgers next door. Paid $88 for 2 queen beds on 2nd floor. Very fair price for what you get in such a remote area. Quiet room. Would stay here again if in the area. Duke's Slickrock Grill is supposedly the best place in town to eat and both food and service was horrible. Bring your own food to Hanksville or eat before you come. No AT&T cell service in the area. Computer in lobby was broken. No phones in room, so be prepared to be out of touch.

Room Tip: If you need a ground level room book it ahead of time. No elevator.

Ended up staying here when I stayed in Capital Reef longer than expected. The highways are free range so it is not recommended to drive in the dark. However if I had driven another 30 min to the main highway, there were lots of chain motels in the area. I was on the way to Moab. The town is small with a steak/burger house, couple of gas stations and hole in the wall souvenir/convenience store. The motel was a typical motel with a queen bed and TV. Internet was available as well. Breakfast was not included. I was only there until sunrise and found it comfortable enough. The price was reasonable for what was included. Service was efficient and friendly.

Great base of operation for hikers in the Hanksville region. Rooms recently renovated and are very attractive. Service is very friendly and you get free breakfast and 10 percent discount at local restaurants. Very good place to clean up after a day of scrambling in canyons.

Room Tip: The rooms on ground floor at more convenient. Rooms at left end seem to have less potential for noi...

Stayed here with my three daughters a number of years ago and had good things to say back then. Back here again for more hiking in the area, and this is still a great motel for the area. Clean, reasonable space, decent price. Nice to have a mini-fridge and microwave. A simple breakfast is now included at Stan's Burger Shack next door. Office staff was very friendly and helpful. I'll stay here anytime I'm in the area for more adventures.

We only spent one night at the Whispering Sands in order to visit the Great Gallery and be reasonably located to return to Salt Lake City the next day for our late afternoon flight home. We found this to be a very nice motel - surprisingly so given its remote location. We had room 101 which offered a king bed and jacuzzi tub - a treat after a day of hiking! The room was nicely appointed and very clean. An added perk for motel guests was the 10% discount offered at the local restaurants. We'd definitely stay here again.

Nice Motel, right on the road. This little town provide a very nice spot to stop for the night when travalling in southern Utah. The drive on the 95 is stunning. The hotel is clean, confortable and the rooms are well equip (Wi-Fi, mini-fridge, microwave) There is a nice restaurant on the other side of the street for breakfast or evening meal.
