“Much more than meets the eye”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2010

We booked the retreat based on prior reviews of the barn, and they were absolutely right on! We stayed in the cabin, which is a converted hay barn, and the owners have created a beautiful ambiance in and around it that includes historic farm equipment, gorgeous rock and wood work, and an innovative use of space inside.

The breakfast was more than ample, and as was mentioned previously, we cooked it ourselves, which made the morning very relaxing. The bed was very comfortable, the drums were loved by the kids, and there is a decent selection of movies. Overall, this is somewhere that anyone who looks for a unique, relaxing and enjoyable stay in Escalante should try.

This old house has been renewed with a true western spirit; The external look is exceptional, and the interior is also valuable. One of my best surprises for a long time.

During our 10 day visit in Utah our 2 days in Escalante were truly relaxing and unbelievably comfortable because of Jen and Shannon's hospitality. The renovated barn is a woodworker's dream. We loved using the grill one night, having a wonderful breakfast basket left in our kitchen to use during our stay and the HOT TUB! We hope to get back there again.

Our stay at the Wild West Retreat was nothing but fantastic! The cabin is spotless and beautifully decorated. It is fully equiped with food and everything neccesary to cook a full course breakfast, movies to watch, a hot tub, king sized bed and futon, and great hosts, Shannon and Jenifer. I would recommend the Wild West to any one looking for a comfortable, family oriented, clean accomadation in southern UT. Make sure to take advantage of the yummy dutch oven dinners they offer, it was a perfect way to end a day of hiking. We will be back for sure!

We are a family of four, our children are 14 and 11. We stayed at the WWR on August 30th, during our holiday doing the grand circle.
Well, when you get at your address in Escalante, all you see is an old barn like those in western movies. You'll never imagine how comfortable and beatiful it is inside. A lot of room for a family of 4 (5 people could sleep), very clean, beautiful furniture. Everything looks new. The kitchen is fully equipped: it is a pleasure to cook one's dinner after days of coffee houses, restaurants and so. A breakfast basket awaits you in the fridge: eggs, milk, juice, yoghurt, cakes, fruit and sausages. There is a wonderful king size bed upstairs, a queen bed is downstairs. Nice sheets and blankets.
We all loved this place very much, we felt so sorry when we had to leave. I wish we had reserved two nights there, considering also the beauty of the surroundings.
The Indian drum is awesome!

Don't let Wild West part throw you! The comfort of this place was beyond all expectations. When you read that it is a remodeled barn, what is your first impression? Well, it is a remodeled barn but once you step inside, WOW, it is fantastic with it's beauty and attention to detail. From the spiral staircase made of logs and log slabs to the bathroom door made of heavy planks with a stained glass moon and star, there is a surprise at every turn. We stayed only one night, but we wished we could have stayed much longer.

When I made the reservation with Jennifer, the owner, I knew from the way she treated me that our experience with the Wild West Retreat would be special. She truly went out of her way to make us welcome and comfortable. When I made the reservation I mentioned that my sister would be celebrating her birthday that evening, and what do you think we found when we got there? A birthday cake complete with candles! Now that's attention to detail!

We would certainly repeat this whole experience in a minute!

We Stayed at the beautiful Wild West Retreat last week with our kids. This Place was amazing the outside looks just like an old barn but inside was an unexpected wonderfull suprise. The log spiral staircase that led to the loft with a huge and comfy bed. on the main level was a darling kitchen with everything we needed to cook breakfast. The place was charming we enjoyed just sitting out on the deck barbaquing and waching the kids play on the grass and the hottub at night we really loved the wood burning stove, Movies games and DVDS were included.

Our hosts Shannon and Jennifer were very knowledgeable on the area, they helped us plan all of our day hikes through the Grand Staircase. The kids loved Upper calf creek falls and the slot canyons Spookey gulch and Peekaboo.

We will definatly come again. Why stay somewhere ordinary when you can have the experience of the Wild West Retreat!
