“Spot on food, service and atmosphere!”

It is quite rare for me to award a score of "5" to any establishment here on TripAdvisor, but Vuz earns every point!!!

Immediately upon entry, the invitingly odd, strangely sophisticated decor envelops you. Our table service was top-notch in professionalism, while still retaining warmth and a sense of humor.

The wine list balances being robust-enough with being manage my petite. The meals are excellent, beautifully presented, reasonable portions and lovely taste.

The patio with mountain views is simply icing on the cake. I would return here again without hesitation.

“Consistently odd service is holding this place back”

Do you remember the scene in "Airplane" where the woman is hysterically crying and the passengers line up to slap some sense in her? That's what keeps coming to mind during our most recent visits to Vuz (dinner, brunch). Both my dining partner and I wanted to slap some sense (figuratively, not literally of course) into every member of the dining staff.

After showing some early promise in delivering a fairly unique (for the region), upscale dining option for Sunday brunch, return visits continue to expose a major flaw with this restaurant -- the service. I've seen no improvement over many months. If anything, the situation appears to have worsened, owing to what seems to be a manager who does not know how to communicate with his staff how to provide service for a higher-end restaurant, resulting in some of the most uncomfortable encounters with servers I've ever had. Most of them seem like deer in the headlights. There are constant interruptions, lack of engagement with the diners, hurry up and wait food ordering and delivery -- just overall a really uncomfortable place to dine.

Our first meal at Vuz (a brunch) was pleasant enough. Despite some mishaps in the service, the waiter was allowed to interact with us and win us over (and make amends). But now all of the servers seem to be running in fear of the manager. The result is some of the weakest service we've ever had at this price point.

Whoever owns Vuz needs to take things in hand, lose the middle-aged shorter gentleman (who I assume is the manager) and either empower the current chef (whose food is not bad) to run the restaurant according to his vision and/or recruit an experienced maitre'd to instruct and guide the wait staff.

If things don't turn around soon, I suspect Vuz will not survive into 2013, which is kind of a shame as it's a lovely facility in a nice location that shows flashes of promise.

Advice for other diners: Avoid Vuz for dinner (too expensive for what you'll get) and certainly avoid if you want any sort of quiet, semi-romantic meal (service is too intrusive for that). Still can work ok for brunch if you're feeling patient and the weather is nice enough for the patio.

“Promising, but service is always shaky”

I've been to Vuz three times now and each visit has been more or less the same. Glamorous-looking restaurant, hip-chic patio, average to great cuisine, and clunky, inexpert service and evidence of other management problems. If they could just fix the service issues, this place could be a lot of fun. It really does have potential. I believe the chef has real talent.

The menu is generally small, but several of the dishes have been executed quite well. The Wagyu sliders are delicious. The lobster benedict is savory and fun.

The menu, though, doesn't seem to have changed much if at all in a year. And while the wine theme seems to signal trends, they have no bar menu of clever mixed drinks for brunch, the wine list is a bit pedestrian, and their menu doesn't seem to have a go-to sort of specialty. There's a cheese plate, but in wine bar, I'd expect a little flair in that area.

The waiters are, well, just awful. It's as if they've never been trained: wrong timing, wrong demeanor, too many questions, wrong questions, awkward personalities, interrupting frequently and needlessly, and most of all they seem to know they're bad and are terrified of management that periodically swoops in to try to "save" staggering diner experiences. often they seem nervous, knocking things over. Today, we ordered capuccino. It was okay, not great, but the cup came. No saucer, no spoon, and no sugar. Kind of a let down, when most restaurants make the arrival a little experience. Today, the mango & tuna martini came in a bowl. It used to come in an elegant martini glass and made a showy entrance. Did I mention the place was empty, not busy?

What else do I mean by management issues? How about being the first customers at brunch and have the waiter come back to say they don't have orange juice? Hmm. Seems like kind of a basic brunch ingredient.

And for such phenomenally bad service, I think they may be heading for trouble when one of the few items available for brunch in an $8 bowl of oatmeal. A little pricy.

Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad restaurant. The food is tasty and the view has real potential. I've seen it full, though only once in three tries. But someone with experience running a restaurant and acquiring and coaching the service team needs to come on board to rescue the skilled chef here.

“Great Atmosphere..food ehhh.”

This is a nice restaurant, good ambiance, great view of the valley from the patio. We enjoyed our meal...the only problem was, it took forever to get it, considering the place was empty. The hostesses were both a little snooty, but the waiter was really nice. If you want to eat on the patio I'd recommend a reservation. It's not that crowded of a place, but everyone wants to eat outdoors in the nice weather, so there is a wait if you don't call ahead. All in all, the food was average, and the service was average. For the cost, there are better restaurants in the area.

“Expected more.........”

Fantastic views, restaurant was beautiful. Service was ok all but seemed waitress was a little confused. The host didn't know anything because he was new. Food was ok considering the price. I would recommend others places before returning.
