“Best staff in the west!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

My family and I have stayed at this wonderful resort a number of times in the last several years. Our most recent stay over the Thanksgiving Holiday was really great. The entire staff was gracious, warm and professional. Everything was top notch from the moment that we walked in to a warm greetings from the front desk staff. The Hospitality Manager greeted us as well. The Housekeeping staff was extremely accommodating and friendly as were the wonderful Food Service folks and the spa staff that goes out of their way to make you feel relaxed.

The rooms and property are clean throughout and well maintained by an Engineering department that obviously takes great pride in making sure that everything is order. The proximity to the ski slopes is surprisingly close.

The entire experience was delightful but it is worth mentioning, by name, some of the great employees that make the this place so special. Caesar in Housekeeping is constantly on the lookout for ways to make your stay even better. Cathy in Leany's, Tanner in the Lift Bar and Mindy in the spa go out of their way to provide great friendly service. Special thanks to the young Women who served us our Thanksgiving meal in Leany's, I regret that I neglected to write down her name, as she was as kind, proficient and professional during a very busy dinner sitting, as any server we have ever experienced.

Looking forward to many more visits to this lovely resort.

We found the Grand Lodge accidentally by going to Brianhead via Parowan rather than our usual route through Cedar Breaks. Since we live in St George, we often go to the mountains in the fall for the beauty of the changing colors during the off-season. What a delight to stumble on this newly remodeled and delightful getwaway! We stayed there for two nights just before the busy season and were pleasantly surprised. We had one snowfall, which was lovely. We did a couples massage in the very well appointed Red Leaf Spa, had dinner and breakfast in the upscale restaurant, swam in the indoor pool and soaked in the wecoming hot spa, and played pool and had a casual dinner in the large upstairs bar. We were very well treated by all of the staff and had a generally wonderful birthday celebration. Our only suggestions were that, given that the lodge is "pet friendly," we would suggest that those with pets get a separate wing from the non-pet owners. We asked, and were immediately moved to a room away from what sounded like a large dog! So I would recommend ensuring you ask for one or the other, (privacy from or near others) depending on your pet status. The only other issue we had was with the dining in the upscale restaurant. My husband's Cesar salad was romaine and dressing. There were neither croutons nor fresh shredded Parmesan. Really? At a steakhouse? And his breakfast of huevos rancheros came with over medium eggs on warmed tortillas with beans rather than the traditional mix of scrambled eggs with beans, rice, peppers, etc., with tortillas on the side. OK, but neither dish was commensurate with the charge or the reputation of the restaurant or lodge. In general, highly recommended for location, comfort, and staff, but be aware of the shortcomings.

Let me apologize for my tardy response to your recent review. We take these comments to heart and they always serve to help us either get better or continue to do what is right. I am glad that in general you enjoyed your experience at our fine hotel. We are located amongst some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere and our staff generally does its best to make our guests' stay comfortable.
We recently rolled out our new menus for the winter season and huevos rancheros was removed in favor of a more popular choice. I am sorry that we didn't do a very good job to describe our rendition before you were surprised by it, we really don't want anyone to be either unpleasantly surprised or disappointed when dining in either of our establishments.
We hope that we can have another chance to make your stay even better should you visit our area again.
Again, thanks for your input and your valuable time.

We started a two-week road trip across Utah and Colorado by a long haul from the Los Angeles Basin, arriving in the pleasant forested confines of Brian Head Village, Utah. While our children were young, we often came to Brian Head for Holiday ski trips and spent many wonderful Christmas days on the slopes skiing with Santa. This was a nostalgic trip back and also a bit of reconnaissance for a potential winter ski trip with our grandchildren. It was also a way to get far away from home for our first night of our road trip to Dinosaur National Monument (Vernal, UT), Steamboat Springs, CO, Rocky Mountain National Park (Estes Park, CO), the area around Colorado Springs (Pikes Peak, the US Air Force Academy, the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, Garden of the Gods, the US Olympic Training Center, etc.) and the San Juan Mountains.
We decided to stay at the Grand Lodge as it had some of the better Tripadvisor reviews. It had been several years since we were in Brian Head and we were saddened to see all of the damage the bark beetles have done to the once pristine woods of the Dixie National Forest and nearby Cedar Breaks National Monument.
The Grand Lodge, although in between summer busy season and winter's active ski season, was still not hibernating, although the main dining room was not open. We opted for the Lift patio and grill and had a couple of nice glasses of wine and a light dinner of fish and chips. It was all good and the staff were friendly and attentive. It was a little cool for outside dining but there was plenty of room inside.
The hotel room was fine: clean and reasonably roomy.
While it had been a Double Tree property at one time, the owners (family owned) decided to return to an unaffiliated status and we enjoy doing business with hotels that have some sort of direct involvement by the owners.
While we were only there for a single night--we headed to Dinosaur National Monument the next morning--we enjoyed the opportunity to see Brian Head again and revisit some wonderful family memories.

Room Tip: If you choose a room on the south side, you have a good chance of having a view of the main ski slop...

Grounds & hotel very nice & quiet. Staff very friendly & accommodating. I was sorry to see that the main restaurant was not open. We ate off the Lift Bar menu & found the food to be mediocre. Nice stay, but for the price it would have been nice to have the main restaurant open.

Thanks for your feedback regarding your stay back in August. When we decided to open the steakhouse Thursday through Sunday, our goal was to try to have it open on the days that we would probably have the most guests. We were trying to run efficiently yet still be accommodating. Obviously this doesn't help someone such as yourself that stays Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Since that time we have started offering a handful of daily specials in the Lift that are normally only available in Leany's Steakhouse. This seems to be a better option than making everyone be limited to the bar menu. Also, if you would give us another opportunity to have you as our guest, if there is a menu selection that you would like us to prepare, just give us a little notice and we will make sure to be ready for you.
Most importantly, thanks for providing your opinion. We realize that people that may have some input or concerns could just go away unhappy. You are giving us a chance to respond and perhaps another chance to get you exactly what you want.

Grand Lodge is clearly not part of the Hilton chain. The building is gorgeous, well-appointed and in a magnificent setting. Visiting in the off season, I thought it would be a quiet stay. There were few cars in the parking lot even when I retired around 10:00. However, that was the end of quiet. Before midnight busloads of foreign tourists arrived and spoke loudly in the hallways making it impossible to sleep. They left early in the morning and again the noise level was great.

The dining room wasn't open that night so I ate in the beautiful Lift Bar. Great setting, but food wasn't. Maybe it's better in the ski season?

Although it was the off-season, prices were high.

Thanks for taking your valuable time to provide us with some feedback about your recent stay. I am sorry that the bus tour group that arrived after 10pm was not more quiet when going to their rooms and also when they departed in the morning. We do ask the tour leader to ask their travelers to be respectful of other guests that may be trying to relax or sleep, evidently with mixed if not limited success. We try to block the late arriving tours away from other guests as much as possible. We want all of our guests to be able to enjoy their stay without being at odds with each other, no one wins when that happens.
Relative to your experience in the bar, I am sorry that we didn't serve your party some of the very best and most memorable food. We really try to do this. Most of our dining guests leave happy and satisfied. I wish that we had been attentive enough to realize that you were not happy, we should have offered you something else or at the very least, not charged you for food you found mediocre, unappealing or boring. I would really appreciate an opportunity to make this right with you, albeit belatedly. Please feel free to contact me directly. But, once again, thanks for your feedback, it helps us figure out what we are doing or failing to do that isn't working.

Our go to place for a get away. Our dog loves it. Try to go every fall, and a couple times during snow board season. Used the hot tub for the first time this place. Love the deck with fire pits off of the bar.

When planing our trip to Bryce we were going to stay in the park but they did not have any vacancy. We are glad they didn't because we found the Grand Lodge at Brian Head. The accommodations were excellent, the staff very accommodating, and the atmosphere wonderful. This is a beautiful lodge and would definitely return. The immediate area is quite and relaxed and is overlooked by the crowds that are visiting at Bryce. The Cedar Breaks National monument is very close to this Lodge. It is a smaller scale of Bryce and yet very beautiful with less crowds. The fall foliage was at it's peak and was absolutely breathtaking.

Thanks for taking your valuable time to provide us and the traveling public with your review of our fine hotel. We thrive on feedback, positive or otherwise. This motivates us to either keep going or make some adjustments and get better. Our entire team is appreciative. We really are in an excellent location to visit both Bryce and Zion. Cedar Breaks is essentially our next-door neighbor. The fall colors are breathtaking and really, the scenery is fantastic year round. Once again, our sincere heart felt thanks for your kind words. We hope to serve as your host again, should you decide to return to our great area.
