We are traveling though Texas on our way home and stayed in Winnie overnight for convenience in order to break up our trip into two days. Al T's was near our hotel and since it was late, we were pretty tired, we decide "any port in a storm" and went in. Great choice!!!!
The place has no ambiance but a drop dead Cajun menu. As tired as we were and as much as we wanted to check in to our hotel
and climb into our cribs - we had been on the move for hours - we had a really tough time deciding what to choose.
Be warned, this is not a place to start or continue a diet or if you really like to eat healthy, go elsewhere unless fried bacon wrapped oysters fit your definition of diet or health food. A cardiologist would probably set the pace on fire.
I had a dozen raw oysters that were fat and tasty. She had the bacon wrapped ones.
We both had a signature dish consisting of a boudin ball dropped into a bowl of delicious gumbo. I had the sausage and chicken gumbo she had the shrimp - you did read my previous warning I hope.
So if you're ever in or going through Winnie (about an hour east of Houston on I-10) drop into Al T's. it's just off the exit.
