“I understand nostalgia, but...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2011

I understand that many people feel nostalgic about this place, especially if they grew up here, but when I compared the cost with the greasy burgers, I was not impressed. The pool of grease from which the burger patties were removed made the buns very gross. I like hole-in-the-wall places, but there is a point where you have to say, "the McDouble at McDonald's is cheaper and healthier"

“Great Hamburgers the Old Fashioned Way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2011

Going to Oma's Jiffy Burger is stepping back in time when customer service was important, community was important, and good food was still a focus in a restaurant. Its the best of all the old bygone era.

The place is smallish, there are booths on the right side, a luncheon counter with stools on the left. However, there is a nice new outdoor patio opened out back expanding the seating area. Although crowded upon our entry, we got a booth. People who go to Oma's seem to be as polite at the staff, they eat, they clean their booth and make room for the next person.

Oma's is open only for breakfast and lunch, so don't wait too late. There is basic breakfast food, but go for lunch.

The menu is on an overhead board, its basically burgers and fixin's. Oma's Jiffy Burgers are thin patties, the more the merrier. They are more than happy to stack 3 on a bun for you.

It was really called Jiffy Burger, and founded by Oma Shaw, and Oma called her place Jiffy Burger because she wanted fast service. Oma has sold the place, but the service is still 'Jiffy'. At the end of the counter, place your order and leave your name. You are handed your cups for drinks, and by the time you are finished at the fountain, your name will be called. And be prepared for a delectable delight.

Oma's Jiffy Burgers are old style burgers that are thin and stacked. They are cooked on an old grill that is well seasoned. You get your order in a paper bag, and removing the burger from the bag evokes an era gone by. The odor of fried meat fresh off the grill mixed with little sweetness of yeast in the roll wafts out that bag and arouses the senses. The burger is wrapped in old fashioned opaque paper, giving you a peak at what a burger should look like. The burgers are throughly cooked and little brownish black on the outside giving them that old fashioned crust. With the nose and eyes aroused, when you bite into the burger, your tastebuds will be singing the Hallaleyah chorus! Everything just comes together for a truly...great...burger.

If you want 'artisan' burgers with fancy fixings, please.. go somewhere else.
If you want a truly great burger made the old fashioned way, then you must eat at Oma's.

“Best little greasy burgers in Texas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

The flavor is just unique. They are made on a grill about 2x3 feet in size. One person prepares the buns and veggies. One person cooks the meat and puts them together, then flops them over on the greasy grill. YUMMY!!! You go to the counter to order and they bring them to you if not too busy. You can watch the process since it is all done in the same room. Booths or set at the bar with swivel seats. They just added an outside seating area which trippeled their seating capacity. No fries. Do have several brands of chips and hot fried pies. Fountain or bottled drinks. Breakfast tacos until 10:30am. The Omita breakfast taco is 3 scrambled eggs, hash browns, ham, sausage, bacon, onions, peppers, all on a 12 inch flour tortia. So hugh, hard to eat it all. A must if in town for a visit.
