“This is a good hotel for families on a budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

I am a TripAdvisor fanatic so I try to give as much info in reviews as possible.
This is a good hotel. I did read the previous reviews and they were pretty spot on for the most part. The hotel was clean and well presented. They are currently renovating their rooms (more on that later) so some may be nicer than others. The front desk agent was polite, but not very friendly. Politeness is important but a smile makes the experience!
Our main reason for booking this hotel (besides price) was the pool. It looked good in the photos and in the Google and Bing satellite images (yes I look at those too! LOL) What I thought was a hot tub was actually a 1 foot deep kiddie pool! My kids are older than needing that but it was still a pleasant surprise. The area was clean and had comfy chairs and nice loungers with 3 pergolas for shade. Pool is salt water but not so salinated it bothers you.
Now for the room. We wanted to be on the pool side to avoid having to walk all the way around from the parking lot side. I guess I should have been more clear with the desk agent as I beleive she thought we wanted to be as close to the pool gate as possible, which we were...room 144 right by the gate. She told us the room was not yet renovated but that the only drawback was the TV was not a flatscreen. No big deal, but it would have been better if she had let us know the construction crews were working on the rooms ABOVE ours. They did quit work prior to 10 pm so we couldn't really complain too much but a little advance warning would have been nice. There were rooms still on the pool side that did not have renovations going on over them that would have been just fine.
Room was clean if a touch shabby, but we knew it was not yet renovated so we didn't expect perfection. Microwave and fridge were clean and always a plus. Bedspreads seriously outdated and had some holes but seemed clean and sheets were clean. Had a table and chairs rather than a desk like hotels do nowadays but I like that better. We don't need a desk but a place to eat my dinner is great.
The beds were a little hard, not awful though, but it was the pillows that were atrocious. Flat as pancakes! Two on each bed and no extras in the room. Decided not to even bother asking for extras as we assumed all their pillows would be like this if this is what they put in the rooms. Went to Wal-mart and bought pillows and cases for our stay.
Bathroom was a bit small but clean and functioning so that's fine.
Breakfast is as other reviewers said. We only ate it 2 out of the 4 days we stayed though. The first day we got there at just before 9am, breakfast ends at 930. There was just enough sausage left for our family of 4 to eat, there were egg patties left too, those were a bit dry but edible. The ubiquitous waffle maker is always a treat but the styrofoam cup coated in previous users batter was a bit messy. Plenty of cereal, bread, biscuits and pre packaged cinnamon rolls, but one lonely yogurt in the cooler was disappointing. It seems like if you do not get there early, the lady does not restock the food. Several guests came down and looked in the sausage bin and saw it was empty and got coffee and left. The breakfast worker was so busy watering the lobby plants I guess she missed her hungry guests that left without food,. The second day was a little better, food was better stocked, we got there a bit earlier though. Still the same waffles, sausage and dry egg patties. Three yogurts in the fridge this time! If you are booking for the food this is not the place for you.
Overall this is a good hotel if you are on a budget. Another plus is it's right down the street from the Zoo! If we have occasion to stay overnight in Tyler again we will definitely go back and try one of the renovated rooms.

Room Tip: If you have kids ask for the pool side to avoid a long walk around the hotel....just check to see wh...

The remodeled room was wonderful, including a king-sized bed and a little sitting area with love seat. The pool area was beautiful. Everything was clean. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Extras we liked included an available wall outlet by the bed (handy for the CPAP machine!), the no slip mat for the tub, and mounted flat screen TV which left more surfaces clear to put things on. Very comfortable in every way. Great value for reasonable cost.

Room Tip: Get a remodeled room.
