“Some of the best moist sliced beef ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Rudy's does a great job with Bar-B-Q. The moist beef is the best, maybe it has something to do with a higher fat content. The beef just seems to melt in your mouth. If you like something with a little zing, try the Green Chili Stew. When the chilis are fresh it can have nice kick. Don't let the gas station front fool you, this is real BBQ.

“A New Discovery - Moist Brisket”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

I went to Rudy's with a friend while visiting Tyler, TX. It was the first time I had ever tasted "moist brisket" and it was delicious. The moist brisket is cooked with fat on it for more flavor and it seemed as though they must keep the brisket warm in it's own juices. It's not low calorie or dry, but it is delicious.
There are plenty other meat options if you want something different. They had regular brisket, sausage, pulled pork, etc. All the usual offerings you might find at a barbque place.
The only reason I couldn't go with five "stars" is that all items here are served a la carte and that can add up fast. They charge for the meat by weight and any side or beverage you may want is extra. No barbque plates or combos are offered.
The only side I had was potato salad which was decent. The real star at this restaurant is the meat which is served on what appears to be waxed butcher paper. All the sides come in styrofoam containers. It's counter service, but the staff were very friendly and personable. I should mention that the sauce is vinegar based which is definitely not my preference, but you really won't need it if you go with the moist brisket.
The decor is nothing fancy, but then you shouldn't expect fancy when you are going for barbque. The tables are picnic tables and the only modern part of the decor would be flat screen TV's located in strategic areas around the restaurant. The place was clean and staff would periodically come around and make sure tables were cleared.
Rudy's is a chain with several locations in Texas and Oklahoma, but fortunately none really close to me. If there were I would be spending a lot of money and potentially gaining weight just on the moist brisket alone! I will visit Rudy's again at some point because I will have to have moist brisket every once in a while :)

“Good barbque”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

Served on paper. Rustic. Good food and good variety. Only thing I am not really fond of is the sauce. Not bad just not home made tasting. Original does have just a touch of hot which is good. They have a very good potato salad.

“Easy & Good”

We're regulars due to the good food, nice people, convenience, and value. Our family of 4 regularly eats for just over $20, and we leave full everytime.
