Group of us (13) went to have dinner at the Saltgrass steakhouse on Wednesday evening. We all arrived at about 6:10 pm. We were asked to wait to be seated. Restaurant wasn't busy. While we were waiting, the hostess kept seating other groups that arrived after us. We went and checked after waiting for about 20 minutes and we were told that they were waiting for one party so we could sit at a table together. They kept seating other guests while we were still waiting. We finally got to our table at about 6:45 pm.
Manager came over and told us she would bring some appetizer for the inconvenience. It took our server (JOSH) 25 minutes to take our food order. Meal took another probably 30 minutes to get to the table. One guest ordered two side dishes as a main course but they came on two small plates instead of an entree plate. All food was prepared well and was good. During the entire time we were seated, our service was mediocre to say the best because our server knew he would automatically add the 18% group gratuity to each check. He sure did and it took him another 10 minutes or so to process our cards.
One guest paid with cash and was supposed to get some change back but Josh automatically assumed it was a tip and never brought the change back. We complained to the manager once again and she said she would adjust the gratuity portion of it. Josh was annoyed and all restaurant guests could see that. He was rude to another one of our guests. Our group was a part of almost 700 conference group that spent a week in the area. Everyone who attended the dinner at Saltgrass is either association staff or on the Executive Board of our association and travels quite often. It wasn't our first time in a Steakhouse. If our association would provide the same level of customer service as Saltgrass staff, we wouldn't have 22,000 members in the state of Texas. Next time your staff tries to be smart with your guests you better think twice about the consequences. All we wanted was just a quick service and good dinner. It took us over 3 hours. We will not be back.
