“Worst Italian place in Woodlands/Magnolia/Tomball area”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

My husband & I ate dinner here on 3 separate occasions some time ago, the 1st being not long after they opened the 2978 location. We went only on the recommendation of a good friend because the history of this restaurant was always sour grapes for us. (They used to be on FM 1488 & supposedly did take-out business only. They had a long-running feud with a fine dining Tomball restaurant of the same name, one we patronized weekly for years. This former take-out business on 1488 would take phone reservations all the time for the other restaurant & never notify the other owner. When customers who thought they had reservations would show up for their tables at the Tomball place, they would have to be turned away if there were no tables available because of the mistakenly placed reservation. We often witnessed those customers being turned away because reservations were always a must for Fri/Sat nites. The owner of the Tomball place repeatedly tried to reason with the 1488 place to no avail.) I digress, but we decided to give this new place on 2978 a chance. The 1st meal was good to very good, service was excellent & 2 free glasses of house wine apiece since their liquor license had not come thru yet. (The place was 90% empty tables throughout the meal.) Our 2nd dining here had poorer service, our 1st 2 choices of main entree could not be served because they were "already out" at 6 p.m., also an unpublished corking fee charged because we brought our own bottle of wine since their liquor license was still not obtained. Our 3rd & last experience not only had terrible service (wrong appetizer served to spouse, totally wrong main entree brought to me, a food which I disliked intensely & did not eat, so I had to wait another 20-25 min. for the entree I originally ordered.) Our server was arrogant, rude, & inattentive. He did not pay attention to water glasses being low or coming to ask if we wanted another glass of wine, so we had to wave at other servers to bring us more water or wine. After the disaster of a dinner was finished, they overcharged on how many glasses of wine were consumed, they charged us for the wrong (more expensive) side salad, and they charged us for all 3 entrees served - 1 of them being the totally WRONG entree they tried to serve me before fixing the correct entree. It took 15-20 minutes to have the bill revised correctly while we waited at our table, and in the meantime we could hear our waiter talking about us to another table. No tip for him and we swore never to return. We've kept that oath and have since heard other horror stories from other friends who were treated poorly or served the wrong foods. None of them patronize this restaurant anymore, either.

“authentic italian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2009

a true bistro style restaurant, small, family owned and operated. I had the chicken scallopine and was delighted with the lemon butter sauce with capers. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs and they were wonderful. Our entrees were both under $15 and we brought our own wine. The atmosphere is lovely and our young waitress did a great job taking care of us. We will be back whenever we are in town.

“Unique dining experience in Magnolia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2009

My family has dined at Tavola's in Magnloia several times and we have always had excellent dishes to please all the family members. We like the laid back atmosphere where you don't feel rushed to get up and leave. Unique dishes and excellent deserts make this one place we will be returning to a lot.

“The most horrible dining experience ever!!!! worse than terrible!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2009

We (4 couples) had reservations here for Val.Day. It was an absolutely horrid service. $50 per person: advertising a menu with filet mignon, snapper, or shrimp scampi (your choice); when we placed our orders, we were told there was no snapper left; some of us that did do shrimp, which came on pasta: the shrimp STILL HAD THEIR SHELLS ON. They ran out of mashed potatoes. We waited two hours for our entree!!! They started folding down chairs, when we hadn't even had our dessert yet! We asked to speak to the manager, and this young lady came to our table, totally unapologetic. The manager came over, and said it was a rough night, that they are a mom and pop operation (altho they did nto charge mom and pop rates). They were totally unapologetic! It was actually like watching a very made movie...DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!unless you want to get treated like [-]!!!!!!
