I've heard good things about this hotel from family, and it was convenient, so, after a 13 hour drive, we were very glad to arrive for our three night stay. We were given our 2 queen room key, and arrived at the room to discover linens strewn about and a mattress against the wall.
We went back downstairs and were given an upgrade by the front desk clerk to a king room with a pull out sofa and a full kitchen. When we entered, however, we were hit with this... this odor. We narrowed it down to the drain in the middle of the bathroom floor, turned on the bathroom fan and the A/C to get the scent out.
We were exhausted, and I assumed (rightly or wrongly) that all bathrooms might have a stinky floor drain, or we would have asked to switch rooms again. So we bore with it.
That night, when bathing, I found myself unable to be in the tub near the floor, so strongly was the odor emanating from the drain. We covered it with a rubber bath mat to block the smell, and decided to mention it to the front desk the next morning.
The next day, we left the A/C going full blast and the bathroom fan on, and I mentioned the smell to the front desk clerk (not assuming there was really much they could do).
To my surprise, when we returned that evening, though the room still stunk, they had screwed some sort of cover over the bathroom drain. Unfortunately, the smell had so permeated the carpet/walls/etc that I don't know if there's much they can do, but they had taken a step. And this night, we were able to bathe without the stench being unbearable.
The following day, the smell was still there, it seemed to be permanent. But despite all that, we had a decent stay there. The standard details:
The bed was comfy.
The TV was a CRT.
Internet access was ok, but nothing to brag about.
The free breakfast was one of the better ones out there.
The room and public areas were clean.
If you consider booking a room with a full kitchen, it's a little of a weird layout. Picture the room being in the shape of a "P". The bed is at the base of the straight line. The sofa bed was at the top of the line. The Kitchen is along the rounded part-- like they took half of your neighbor's room. The appliances were along a wall with a big empty floor in the middle, as if they forgot to put the dining table in.
Will we stay there again? Probably at the right price. But the lesson learned was to bring febreeze when staying in a hotel.
