I was impressed with the room and the price at this location. The room was clean and the staff was pleasant. Mr. Patel was more than helpful when we needed to use the desk computer to print our boarding passes for our return. Our only complaint would be that the pool is not heated and was far too cold to swim in, and the room did not have a couch or chair other than those used for the kitchenette. The only place to watch television while in the room at night is sitting on the bed. We enjoyed the waffles in the morning but a little protein would have been nice, even yogurt or peanut butter for the bagels. However, for the price we simply bought a dozen eggs and a few cartons of yogurt which we left in the fridge. Some mornings we cooked the eggs for breakfast, other mornings we took yogurt with us to have with the waffles. It was a pleasant experience altogether and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the motel to others.

Paper thin walls, poor maid service, extra fees, room stinks, plumbing problems, poop in pool, road noise, and rules, rules, rules. At the South Padre Super 8 expect to live your vacation by many rules. Rules such as continental breakfast must be eaten in the lobby. Their food is not allowed to be taken to their rooms because they don't want to have to clean it up! Other rules include no pets allowed on the grass, even though they claim to be "pet friendly". As far as the "pet friendly" goes they forget to mention that they charge $10/pet/night. When booking the reservations they even ask you if you have a pet. There is a little sign on the wall stating pets must be declared at check in. If you happen to miss this sign be prepared to pay extra fees. Look out for the management and maids. During our week stay we had maid service once. In that one cleaning the maid broke the toilet handle off. Management attempted to charge us for the damage. These guys are tricky. Look out!

My wife and I have stayed at the SPI Super8 on numerous occasions (pre-Dolly) for varying lengths of time... but always in the off-season so I can't comment on Spring Break, or Summer Prime time.

We have always been more than satisfied with the value, staff, management, breakfast, and even the other guests that we have met during our stays.

If noise is a problem make a point of NOT getting a room that shares a common door with an adjoining room. There is a significant lose of sound insulation over what one would find between two normal rooms.

The closer you are to the front entrance the more you will hear guests arriving or departing. If it is busy there can be quite a bit of traffic. Booking on the "back" bay side will eliminate that problem. (We usually stay quite close to the front office but it is seldom a problem during the off-season)

If you have a choice, don't take a room opposite the laundry area unless you are an early riser.

Weekends are for partying, sports tournaments, families giving the kids a treat, etc.... it is going to be noisier. Get used to it, It is a universal condition.

This is not a big motel and does not have its own security staff. If they have a problem and the police are busy, there isn't much that can be done in the middle of the night other than verbal cautions.

We hear that the storm damage (island wide) is well on the way to completion and look forward to our next stay at Super8.
