“Location is Great - Drinks-Food-Atmosphere Overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

Clayton's Beach Bar and Grill at South Padre Island has two things going for it. Location and Location. It's definitely convenient when you are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn and Suites, the La Quinta (both on the beach), and a handful of other hotels on the north end of SP Blvd. As for the food, drinks, and all around "bar atmosphere" Clayton's is overrated and definitely overpriced. The drinks are at best watered with little alcohol (except the beer) and the food is little more than concession stand quality. Clayton's fails to take advantage of its location by creating an inviting beach bar atmosphere. Overall wander to better locations (Wanna Wanna, Louie's, etc.) for quality food, reasonable drinks, and a much more appealing beach bar atmosphere.

“Saturday fireworks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

The mosquitoes were bad at night but fireworks and drinks were good. There were lots of tables but packed on saturday for the 9:15pm fireworks show.

“Location Location Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

The location is unbeatable. The ability to hit the beach with drinks in hand and the music is good.
Drinks were not watered down and the service was good. They had plenty of employees to take care of the crowd and cleaned the tables quickly. A must go if you love the beach

“Food was ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

The cheeseburger was dry and not very flavorful and the pina colada was watery and weak. I think the appeal of this place is the location and the live entertainment. I would go back, but only for drinks and nightlife.

“Overrated, but the location and view brings in the crowds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

The new deck, the seating, the band area are all very nice but this place is a bit over the top. The size and crowds are too big to match the service and parking--it is kind of a madhouse and the crowds are obnoxious--it is like everyone is cramming to get into the "next big thing". We attended a concert there and the logistics were terrible. The food/drinks/bar are all beach standard but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle to head up north and deal with parking and the chaotic crowds. I'll stick with my smaller, more well known haunts in central island.
