Good price and yes it seemed clean. If you don't mind stayin in something that looks like an old one room apartment with no locks on the bathroom window then this is where ya wanna be!!!!! I got there at 3 am and left by 4 am. Could not sleep in the old beds and for sure could not leave my beloved yorkie there all day while exloring the island. Went to a hotel down the road where u could actually get a person at the front desk instead of a voicemail ... Look before you book!!!!

There is a very small bathroom window in this particular room with no lock. However, in the 7 years we have been here, this has never been an issue. (I think because the window is too small for anyone to fit through.) In addition to the small size of the window, there is a bougainvillea underneath the window on the outside. (If you are not familiar with bougainvillea, it has very large thorns that can be quite painful if you get stuck by one.) If that's not enough, there are two bright security lights shining down on both the window and the bougainvillea.
To alleviate any further concerns, we will be installing locks on each of the miniature bathroom windows.
As we have stated before, South Beach Inn, formerly the Sea Grape Motel, was built in 1961. It is now 50 years old and is the oldest hotel on South Padre Island. It is unique. It is not for everyone. But there are some who absolutely love it and wouldn't stay anywhere else. As for it being scary, I don't think so. It's just old.
And good luck finding any 12-room hotel where the office is open 24 hours. It's just not economically feasible.
So, for everyone out there, please do your research. Review our website. If you find it's not your style, so be it. To each his own. South Beach Inn has something unique to offer - character.

My daughter & I drove down to South Padre for a quicky vacation before school started. I wanted a small hotel with easy access to the room. This is just what we got - we parked right outside the back door of the room, and unloaded the car straight into the room. The room was clean, bright, came equipped with full kitchen, coffee maker, microwave, etc. We could run in and out at our leisure, without fussing with other guests, etc.
We ended up staying another night, and the owner was very accomodating, first finding us lodging for the extra night at another of their properties, and then letting us stay in our room when they had a cancellation. They recommended restaurants, dolphin tours, etc. All were excellent! Would definitely stay there again!

I have stayed twice at South Beach Inn and like it very much. Great location - its away from the noise. If you want to go to the beach, it just half a block down the street. The swimming pool is is great, not too big, not too small. BBQ pits are great - did some grilling. Rooms are clean and have TV and kitchen - almost being like home, and all for a great affordable price. Overall, SBI is a quiet, relaxing, cozy place - very comfortable. The owners are also great and accommodating to your needs.

Yes. South Beach Inn is an awesome place to stay for peace, quiet, & relaxation; especially in the off-season. We offer clean, spacious rooms at an affordable price just a half block to the beach on South Padre Island. All of our rooms have full kitchens. We have BBQs. We're pet friendly. And we have a great pool.
Thank you to our repeat guests. We appreciate your business!

My husband and I booked a room at South Beach Inn to be close to friends staying with family in a beach front condo. The great location and a good A/C are about the only positive things I can say about our stay at South Beach Inn. We were pretty shocked when our shuttle driver dropped us off and only hoped that the rooms were better than our first impression of the exterior of the hotel. This place is ANCIENT. There have been no attempts at refurbishing or updating the rooms. Although our room appeared clean, everything was so old that the cracked and peeling paint, stained appliances, concrete walls, cheap bedding, flimsy fans and lamps, and terrible beds left much to be desired. During our first night, we serioulsy considered changing hotels, but after reading other reviews from customers who were either unable to get a refund or who had to put up a fight for their refund, we decided to just stick it out since we would be spending most of the time away from our room anyway. The price of the room is pretty reasonable considering the proximity to the beach, however we did find a 2 bed/2 bath condo just a three streets away for only $20 more/night. Just know that you are NOT getting a modern, luxurious, comfortable, or inviting room when you book a stay at South Beach Inn, but if clean, close and cool is all you require than this is the place for you.

True. South Beach Inn is the oldest hotel on South Padre Island. Built in 1961 as the SeaGrape Motel, we boast a relaxed family atmosphere at a reasonable price. Our rooms are more like cabins near the beach than a typical modern hotel room.
If you are looking for a 4-star room at a 1-star price, you're going to be disappointed.
If you are looking for a clean, quiet place with kitchens & BBQs that's very close to the beach, this is the place for you.
All of our beds are new within the last 4 years and they are hotel quality. In fact, we replaced almost half of our beds just this spring.
We also have a variety of upscale condos that you can upgrade to starting at $30 more per night, but at different locations.
We really want our guests to be happy. So if you are used to staying in a 4-star hotel, please book a 4-star hotel.

We learned about it through TripAdvisor.com. Made several calls to Stacie, the proprietor, who was always helpful and friendly on the phone. When we finally could book, it was for two mid-week nights, perfect for us. Their website is honest and everything it says is what you will find. If you are looking for a five-star Ritz Carlton experience, this isn't it. It also is not for the late-night, loud partying crowd. What it offers is great value, very relaxing, lovely pool and steps to the beach, plus free parking and suggestions on where to dine if you ask. We did not cook or eat in our room but all you need is there if you choose to do that. We were very pleased with a clean and friendly old 50's style motel that was a perfect location for us. And we shall return!

South Beach Inn was a perfect getaway right in the heart of the island a block from the beach and an easy walk to many restaurants and bars. Hiking the sand dunes to the north was beautiful, taking in the music festival was fantastic, and seeing dolphins while out jet-skiing in the gulf was a true highlight. The Inn was quiet and convenient and allowed me to relax when returning from my many island excursions.

We stayed at South Beach Inn over labor day weekend, arriving Friday and leaving Labor Day Monday. I can see why many people like this place but for me it just didn't meet the expectations that you get from other reviews and the rating it has here on Trip Advisor. When we checked in we were not greeted at all really, I wasn't expecting flowers to be laid out for me but a simple, "Hello welcome to South Beach Inn, how are you" would have been nice. We were simply checked in and on our way, not a huge deal but when you work in a hospitality type business I think that is important. I am General Manager for a restaurant and my greeters are important because of that, they set the tone for the entire experience.
The rooms are in one long row with doors that open to the parking lot behind the property and to the pool in front which I liked. The rooms themselves were okay, and a little tlc would go a long way here. At first glance it looks fine but then you start noticing the peeling paint, the rusted appliances, no weather strip on the front door where you could see outside from underneath etc... Overall we were comfortable but again just didnt meet the expectations. One other thing that bugged me was that any utensils or kitchenware is an extra $10 with a $50 deposit. Seriously why have rooms with a kitchenette if you are not going to provide basic utensils. I would just charge a little more for the room and include it, we simply brought our own stuff to make breakfast etc...
The pool out front was great, when we were tired of the beach it was nice to jump into the pool just outside our room, and it was 7ft on the deep end and very clean. The location is also a big plus, we simply walked down to the beach with all our stuff with no worries. Overall the inn is average, great for people with pets, and for those on a budget. It is what it is a motel/inn with basic amenities and good location, just don't get your expectations way up because you may be a little disappointed.

Thank you for your review. Very honest. I like that. I am Stacie Sutter, Owner/Operator/Greeter/Accountant; you name it, I'm it. Unfortunately, by the end of the season, Labor Day, my enthusiasm has withered.

It's true. By Labor Day last year, South Beach Inn needed some TLC, (& so did we). This spring, we have installed some new blinds, installed some new doors, & we've ordered some new beds, linens, lights. We are working on a few upgrades.

At the same time, we're at the beach, & the Laguna Madre is very high saline. This high-salt environment rusts cars, metals, appliances, etc. within months. The rusty appliances will stay as long as they work.

We still have one of the greatest pools on the island. All of our units have full kitchens (still without pots & pans - as they tend to disappear), & we're only a half block to the beach. South Beach Inn is really the "best bang for the buck."
