I grew up eating at this little hole-in-the-wall joint called Tookie's in Seabrook, TX., where you eat at wooden, picnic style tables with bench seating, paper towels for napkins & nostalgic signs & other antique memorabilia hanging all over the walls. They brought your cherry coke in a carafe and your ice in a separate glass (or in their case a plastic tumbler)!
Two of my all time favs... the 99 burger or the Stomps Icehouse Special *drools*
Juicy, messy and oh so delicious. The menu has expanded, but I stick with my faves :-)
Oops, don't forget the scrumptious onion rings!
Long story short, this place was badly damaged by Hurricane Ike in 2008. Legend has it they didn't plan to re-open. Sadness fell upon our little town. Then the Gods above smiled on Seabrook & Tookie's found its way back to us.
I was just there a few days ago for lunch (a long overdue Happy Birthday present to myself). I had the 99 burger (marinated in wine), a combo plate of fries & rings and a cherry coke. STILL as good as I remember. The atmosphere has changed, my cherry coke wasn't in a carafe, things are a little different, but I wouldn't miss eating here any time I had the chance.
The End :-)
