“O.K. lodging, nice staff”
My son (he's from Southern California} and I met up at the Austin airport rented a car and headed for the Texas State graduation of my grandaugher in San Marcos.
Time was tight as my flight out of Seattle via Dallas had been delayed for over an hour but we arrived just in time to hear them play Pomp and Circumstance. Family had saved us seats.
Anyway after celebrating with our new graduate we finally checked into the San Marcos LaQuinta only to be told by the desk clerk our reservation for a room with two queen beds was not to be as it turns out they were fresh out of those kind of rooms. The cry of the HAIRY CHESTED OH NO BIRD was heard in the lobby. But then something nice happened. The kind lady asked: "would you mind a free upgrade to a suite?"
"Bring on the suite" we uttered joyously.
Not bad. Two beds, 2 TV sets, with a partition separating the beds so this room would also would have been ideal for a family or two couples traveling together. Microwave, internet connection, coffee maker, hair dryer etc. clean and somewhat spacious and on the ground floor only steps from the car and a short walk to the lobby.
Stayed 2 nights. Good breakfast bar with waffle maker and usual cereal, juice, pastries, coffee, tea, etc. Some places I've stayed it can get a little crowded in the dining area but hats off to the San Marcos LaQuinta for providing additional tables up the Scarlet OHara stairway (well almost) where my son and I lingered over a few cups of coffee. Convenient location with easy access to the freeway.
The Four Seasons this LaQuinta is not. But I am not difficult to please....all I ask is a good nights, sleep, cleanliness, and a staff that doesn't resemble the cast from Coma. If ever my travels again take me to San Marcos I shall not hesitate to make the LaQuinta my headquarters. Oh yeah. My son liked it too.
