Cuisines: American
Description: The Vault just opened the night that we were in San Marcos, Sept. 24, 2010 for the Discover Texas State Wine Walk. Full restaurant service was not available that eveing, but the appetizers were yummy, the beer cold and the atmosphere GREAT! Built in 1891, It is the old bank builiding downtown that was robbed by the Newton Gang in the early 1920's. It's claim to fame is the site for the 1970's movie "The Getaway" with Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw. They have kept the original charm of the old structure with refinished wooden floors, teller desks that serve as bar tables, and 3 working vaults used for dry storage, cold storage and even a small private event room. Lots of character, great staff and interesting history.

“Great place but now closed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

I really enjoyed the meals I've eaten at the Vault. We went here again yesterday and found that the Vault is vacant. Totally shut down, which is a shame because it was a great place.
