“Walked like never before!”

My wife wanted to go shopping, so I tagged along with her and did plenty of walking. They have good deals on some things and it gets packed. Not my cup of tea, but wife loved it.

If you are a veteran shopper looking for deals, this is the place. This was considered the largest outlet mall of its kind in the US.

There are 2 parts: The Tangier part and across the street the Premium Outlets.

Take I35 to exit 201 to get to the mall. If it is early (and I suggest you make this an all day event) there are several restaurants including a Cracker Barrel and Outback that you can visit for food, or you can go to the food court which is on the Premium side.

THE VERY FIRST stop you should make is to the Visitor Center. This is because they give out welcome packages that can include HUGE discounts at many stores on top of the already savings ad if you are Military or a student, or elderly, you might be eligible for even more savings.

Get a couple of these kits (one per person) then head out. The Tangier side is not my favorite. it has the lower end stores like Carters, Ecko, kenneth Cole, Justice, Hollister, etc. The same stores you find in your malls but with a discount.

Bascially outlets are stores with the stock overruns and discontinued items of each brand or store although some items are not made exclusively to be sold at the outlet.

I always start over on the Tangier side especially when shopping for children.

By noon (the mall opens at 10) I am crossing the street to park over on the gold coast near my favorite stores of Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Fendi, Kate Spade and Ferragamo, there is also Ralph Lauren, True Religion jeans, Lucky, Tumi, Escada, Betsy Johnson, Armarnia the perfumaria.. you get the picture.

Nix the Neiman Marcus Last Call. it is sort of forlorn and the prices are often better and the pickings easier in the actual stores. There are kiosks for fast treats or the food court is in the corner. There are stores worth looking into (international time store or watch company will have Burberry and Mark Jacobs watches cheaper than anywhere else and yes they come in their designer boxes.. Coach ALWAYS has super sales as does Kate Spade for all of you purse and glam lovers.

At some point, go to the Fudgery or Rocky Mountain Chocolate for a nice cold milkshake or icecream drink before storing your bags and going back in for more.

This is a true shop til you drop place and when I was deep into fashion, this was a MUST stop on my trek across the US. If you want to shop and also let the kids enjoy the time in TX, be aware that there is a 6 flags close in San Antonia and a Schliterbahn water park less than 35 minutes away, you are also about 45 minutes from Austin and the city limits.

I would base myself in Austin or at the Outlet mall area (plenty of hotels) then branch off from there.

Best finds: Bubery watch on sale for 99.00, and Fendi boots and Kate Spade boar skin bag with pony hair for 250.00 (regular 899.00)

The Tanger Outlets here in San Marcos are complete blast. There is a lot of walking to do if you plan on staying on foot, but it is definitely worth it. Highly recommended.

“A whole lot of everything all in one place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2015

If you're not an avid shopper, the sheer size of this sprawling outlet mall might be overwhelming. Never fear! A courtesy shuttle picks up and drops off at various sites all around the shopping complex. You'll find everything from tools to toys and scarves to shoes. Also plenty of specialty shops. I drove over two hours just to go to the Waterford Wedgwood Royal Doulton shop and was not disappointed. You'll find lots of sales, and when you get tired of shopping there are several restaurants in the immediate area. Directories and maps are available to help you find what you're looking for.
