“Klumps now Mexican Food Nightmare”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012

Horrible service. Chair was filthy upon arrival. My wife asked if it could be cleaned. Server just looked at us. Never done.

Asked for extra tortillas. Never arrived.

We are locals and are appalled that our favourite RT restaurant was sold (twice) and this is what we are stuck with. Drive to Stone Cellar. Pizzas are great. People are much more cordial. Overall much better.

“Good food, cold beer, friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2011

I have visited this restaurant three times now while on motorcycle trips to/through Round Top. Have had good experiences two of three times. Food quality has always been good - service can be slow.

Today visited there with another couple and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed the food. Onion rings were especially tasty, and my wife specifically recommended these to our guests - who were not disappointed.

I had a cheeseburger, which was juicy and tasty. The others in my party had a Caesar Wrap, a Pico de Gallo wrap, and another cheeseburger. All of us enjoyed the food and would recommend it. Service is always a little slow there - took 20 minutes for the food to get out, but drinks came quickly and we had a good chat until the food arrived. They have a good selection of beer and the sweet tea is wonderful, as well.

The wait for the Cafe there in Round Top was at least 30 minutes today, so we headed over to Dempsey's/Klumps. It was a good alternative, and reasonably priced.

Our one negative experience was on our last visit a few months ago, when we were in a little bit of a hurry, and it took 30+ minutes for the food to come out (food was good though, so no complaints about that).

“Klumps is Dempseys now”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2011

I am a local. First, Klumps is now Dempseys. It has a very limited menu and is now live music on weekends. Round Top is a great little country town and a wonderful place to go for a trip into the lovely rural countryside. That said, Dempseys (formerly Klumps) has lost its former appeal when it was owned by the founding family. Back then it was great and the best chicken fried steak around--alas times have changed.

“Beyond Bad, Not worth one star”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2010

Dempsey's ad says Killer Food --- Well it will kill you to eat there. Had a pork chop. macaroni casserole and I think it was broccoli. First your served on a paper plate with plastic forks. Since the food was so bad didn't eat much so plastic ware was not a problem. Macaroni casserole, noodles with Ragu, maybe Ragu was too good of reference. The Broccoli was just plain mush. They were just starting lunch so no left over hour. And dessert was a small dixie cup with 4 yep 4 small canned peach slices in it. For 3 people $35, it wasn't worth $5‎

Only other thing on the menu was hamburgers, and a sandwich

The blamed it on Antique week, That should be the time to put out
some good food. Lots of foot traffic and word of mouth.

“The worst burger in the western world...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2009

Seriously, how hard can it be to completely miss the point of a cheeseburger? This staple of diner food has been around for well over a century & the cooks (I use that term in its loosest possible definition) at Klump's are unable to grasp that most basic of menu items.

From the grease-covered menus to the cold, congealed-grease clump masquerading as a patty to the ancient, stale, cold, petrified fries - there is nothing - repeat: NOTHING - redeeming about Klump's.
