My wife and I enjoy an annual "pilgrimage" down to the Rockport area every winter to see the Whooping Cranes and other migratory birds in the area. This year we camped at Goose Island State Park in our travel trailer, and enjoyed a wonderful campsite right on the bayfront of St. Charles Bay. We were on the side closest to the fishing pier, and stayed five nights. The park and the camping areas are delightful. Our spot had electricity and water hookups, and a covered picnic table. Nearby, close to the "Big Tree", we saw two Whooping Crane families that had decided to stake out their territories, possibly due to the presence of automated corn feeders.
This is a great place to stay if you have an RV or camping trailer. Tent campers have their own areas in the woods.
