Comparing a fast food burger using gourmet dining standards is both unrealistic and inappropriate. That being said, The Days Inn in Rockport Tx is certainly no Gaylord or Anatole and the following review will be completed based upon the caliber of hotel type.
Realizing we had failed to make appropriate hotel reservations in time for our annual Oysterfest adventure, we were prepared to accept almost any accommodation we could find in the area. Days Inn boasted ONE available SMOKING room for the heavily traveled evening we requested at a rate of $135 + tax = $160...we took what we could get.
The day we were to arrive for check in, we received a phone call from the hotel manager asking if we would like a non-smoking room. Service-BONUS POINTS!!!
Upon arrival, the hotel seemed fairly crowded-it's a MOTEL style with room access on one side only and all room views facing the bay, however,we managed to find parking up front. Check in was VERY quick, with manager expecting our arrival and very courteous. SERVICE-BONUS 2!!!!
Our access room card worked on first go -that isn't something that typically happens but when it does, it sure enhances the overall review.
The room itself was CLEAN. There was a slight chlorine bleach odor coming from the AC unit but nothing intolerable and certainly better than mold, stale cigarettes, froofy carpet freshener or dog! The decor was interestingly unique, with my favorite aesthetic addition being the electric fireplace. The interior design was a significant touch above your standard MOTEL type room, with energy calming colors, pictures and flowers. The room was visually appealing and comfortable.
Appliances boasted a full fridge, a microwave, a small beverage fridge, a small single brew coffee pot, basic ironing equipment, older TV, all to enhance the travelers needs.
The lighting was ample.
Other positives: comfy pillows, plenty of soap and shampoo, alarm clock, hair dryer and decent continental breakfast (fruit, waffles and pastries) with coffee and juice.
Downsides: The price, entry door was a French set of doors (tad down on the safety side but since access well lit and on one side only, this made safety leas of an issue), insulation of sound not great, which did detract from sleep quality.
Check out was VERY rapid, with less than 45 seconds to complete.
Overall, the stay at Days Inn Rockport TX was VERY GOOD. The 'few' extra attentions to detail in the area of service, cleanliness and aesthetic charm took this No Tell Motel from an average to a very good.
