“Nice Museum, Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

If you live in the Golden Triangle it is definitely worth a visit. It is inexpensive, well maintained, and not crowded. We enjoyed the history of the area from the time of the dinosaurs to present. The displays of famous athletes and celebrities from the area is interesting as there were quite a few that we weren't aware of. Compared to other big city museums it is obviously not much, but for a few dollars and an hour or two of time it is well worth a visit.

“Very Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

Nice museum. Price is very reasonable, and the staff are nice. Very informative about Texas history, cool displays, and lots of sports and music/tv/movie memorabilia. It took us about an hour and a half to walk through.

“Worth the trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013 via mobile

I enjoyed this museum. It begins with the natural history of the area and progresses through settlement by native Americans to the Spanish, French, and English settlers to westward expansion. It also tells the history of port Arthur and Beaumont as petroleum helped the area to develop. Upstairs are famous athletes and musicians native to the area...most notabe is Janis Joplin. There is a replica of her Porsche complete with its "hippy mural paint". Well worth the price....

“You are in another world once inside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Once inside you are transported to another world. It's a fantastic memorial to not only musicians but people of other persuasions such as sports. Thelma Tadlock is honored there. She was a dancer/choreographer of a local dance instructor. Not all honored here are deceased. The section that is of interest to most people and the section that originated the museum is the Janis Joplin section. She graduated with my brother and was a classmate to several of my friends. People I know are honored there. Do not pass this by because downtown Port Arthur has been destroyed by hurricanes, storms and weather. IT IS Well Worth The Visit.
