Our trip to Amelia's at best was disappointing. To begin, the touted mom pop personal touch hotel that was newly remodeled had shabby accommodations. Our bed was terribly uncomfortable, the a.c. wasn't working properly and our refrigerator didn't cool the room. The furniture was garage sale finds.The next morning, we got our "special breakfast" delivered to our room. The muffins were the Big SAMs Walmart brand while the juice was a tiny 4 oz texsun can. How is this better than a hot waffle? I addressed my issues with the staff regarding the room and was told that everything would be taken care of with the exception of the bed, which the staff person person advised was a new pillow top mattress and went to say that her husband likes a really firm bed while she prefers a soft bed, but as long as he's comfortable, she's happy. When we returned that evening, the room was still hot, the fridge not fixed. That pretty well sums up our stay.

We take every review seriously, but there are four things y'all need to know about this review:
Report response as inappropriate
1. The room this guest stayed in (the Wright Brothers Room) has achieved a satisfaction rating of 3.88 on a scale of 0 - 4. (We survey every guest during their stay.) That is a 97% approval rating for that specific room.
2. The person who wrote this review booked on-line with a third-party travel agent, and then tried to cancel inside of the 72-hour cancellation policy. When informed that they would be charged one night if they canceled, the guest begrudgingly said "Well, then I'll use the room."
3. The reviewer booked late. As a result, all of our new double-queen rooms were already taken, and she was assigned The Wright Brothers room -- our last available double queen room. That room has been redecorated, but is NOT one of our brand new rooms. That said, dozens of people have stayed in it this year, as recently as last night, and loved it -- as is borne out by the satisfaction ratings.
4. The bed mentioned in the review is less than 2 years old. I have tested it out, and could find nothing wrong with it. It's a pillow-top Serta. (The reviewer personally told us that their spouse loved the bed.) Same goes for the air conditioner -- it is running cold and no one else has mentioned a problem. (We checked it during their stay, and could find no discrepancies. The unit is 19 months old.) The little dorm fridge in the room has been replaced -- the rubber seal was bad, and was allowing cold air to escape. It still kept food and beverages cold, but could not make ice, so we replaced it.
To sum up, other than replacing the fridge after they checked out (which was our first opportunity, as there is no "refrigerator store" on this island) the room is EXACTLY the same now as it was when they checked in. And 97% of the guests who have stayed in it have rated it "Excellent".
In our humble opinion, this guest was upset about not being allowed to cancel.
