“Wonderful vacation spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2009

We took our senior citizen parents and three teenagers along with my girlfriend and myself for a wonderful week at the Beachcomber. It was a wonderful private and secure place to spend a week, we left our private belongings on the deck and they were never disturbed. It was quite except for one night when a transformer blew out and we lost power for a little while but that was no big deal. it was a very short walk to the beach. We would recommend it to anyone with children as they had a wonderful time. We are looking forward to going back again. We just wished that everyone on the island was as nice as the Hueys. My husband and I discovered the Beachcomber by accident in 2002. We got a walk in rate for one night. All I can say is that this is the first place we want to stay when we get to the island. We have been back over 20 times in 6 years.Every summer we stay for a week for our family vacation. I dont know who you people talked to but the owners of this place, Steve and Carol, have never been anything but friendly and welcoming to my family every time. From being invited to Fish frys to our children playing with their grandchildren in their front yard, each stay has been a pleasure. The rooms are very clean and well equipped, it is a short walk to the beach, the hot tub is fantastic, the grounds are beautiful and the salt water pool is very refreshing! The rates are very resonable for all of the amenities. Maybe you thought the owners were rude because they expect you to clean up after yourself! It is stated when you check in that there is no maid service. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a great stay at a reasonable price, by people who will treat you like one of the family.

We were happy with our stay in the Penthouse last year, so this year we e-mailed for prices to repeat our stay. The price had gone up by $18 a night, which was much more than the properties of comparable quality, and the owner was rude. Other people have said that he was rude to them but we didn't mind that we had to take out our trash and leave our room clean, so we thought they were just too picky. The attitude of "take it or leave it" this year really turned us off and we won't be back.

  • Liked — Balcony overlooked the ocean.
  • Disliked — The rudeness of the owner.

We have not raised rates in over 5 years. This person propbably received a special walk-in rate(if we are not full and someone walks in, we sometimes offer one time lower rates.) and wanted to duplicate this for an advance reservation rate. Our rates are not only competitive, they are the lowest for the location and aminities we have.

My family visited Port A most summers when I was growing up, and for the vast majority of those summers, we stayed at the Beachcomber. It was so conveniently located and had that beachy feel. My nostalgia for the Beachcomber had me insisting on staying there for a couple of nights on my honeymoon as well. But years later, bringing my 3 year old with me for the first time, I noticed how run down the units felt. I was a little grossed out by the condition of the bathroom and kitchen--the grout and caulking in the tub and sink areas were dirty. The units have been slightly updated but don't seem very clean. I was shocked to find out what we were being charged for the units that we had booked (for 6 adults and 4 young kids). All of us agreed that for our next trip to Port A, we needed to do some research and find a place that was worth the rental price, and a place that was clean.

It is too bad they waited two years to post this review. During this time, several updates of the property have been accomplished. We still are the lowest priced condos for the location and amenities. We are the closest hotel/condos to the beach on Ave. G. We are the only condo with a large enclosed Hot Tub. We have a salt water pool. All our units have full kitchens.

The owner of this hotel expects you to treat this place as though you were family. You spend hundreds of dollars to rent the rooms and get verbally abused when the kitchen floor is not swept. The family that owns this condo has no concept of service for payment.. We were yelled at by the owner and his cleaning lady about how long it took to clean our room (we spent $1500.00) Bottom line, if you truly want a vacation, do not rent from these people.

This person evidently got their feelings hurt because I informed them that their unit was left in a shambles on the last stay. They have stayed with us a total of 32 days in the last 4 years. "Bottom Line", they stayed with us for seven days just two months after they wrote this nasty review.

Took the family on a long weekend and loved this place. It was great to be able to walk to the beach instead of taking the car. It was also great to just relax on property, sit on the deck and watch the kids play. We wil be back and tell our friends.

The Beachcomber in Port Aransas is the second place we have stayed at, we wont be looking anywhere else because this place has everything we need. Its close to the beach and has a swimming pool that i feel safe letting my kids swim in. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the rooms are big and clean, the prices are good, what more could you ask?
