Six of us stayed in #216 (one bedroom). It was wonderful. The room has a HUGE jacuzzi tub and plenty of room. There are bunkbeds built in to the wall along with a hide-a-bed sofa. It was very clean and nicely decorated. All proceeds from this condo go to the sea turtle foundation. The wall facing the ocean is one huge window. This allowed you to see the ocean from everywhere.
You are a few miles out of Port A. but on the island. You are right off of North Padre Island so you can reach corpus by the JFK causeway if you don't want to bother with ferry lines. This also gives you a quieter, less populated beach. Being by itself allows for the ocean breeze (which gets lost between the buildings in town). The pools are nice and big. We often had a pool to ourselves. One pool is 2 1/2 feet deep which is great for little ones. The boardwalk is taken care of and lighted with a wash off station. The only draw backs are the one very slow elevator and the need for repainting on the outside. It is an older condo.
TIPS: eat at Moby Dicks. See an outside concert at Pelican's Landing. The helicoptor tour down the street is fun! Hit the grocery store right before the Causeway b/c Mayan has no restaurant. Play plenty of Larry Joe Taylor while you're there.

“Loved unit 304”

Mayan Princess

We vacationed again at the Mayan Princess and our family had a great time. We stayed in unit 304 again and it was nicer this time than previous.

The new tile floors and carpet in the unit were a great upgrade and made our stay even nicer. The owners also left chairs for the beach, that was also nice.

The unit was also just furnished with new sofas both upstairsand down stairs and a new kitchen table with 6 chairs. This was very helpful because of the size of our family.

The complex's paint job was finally finished but, the hot tub is always broken. The complex needs to put in a new unit.

All in all we like the location, the quiet and the unit. it has provided us some great vacations and based on the owners constant upgrading of the unit we plan to return and request this unit again.

When booking if unit 304 is not available make sure you get an upgraded unit. Some units are not upgraded. Stay in 304 and you will not be sorry.

We feel it is a terrific value.

“Faded Princess”

We spent Thanksgiving there, 4 families in 5 rooms. Our room was not one of the updated rooms (we requested one but didn't get it), but other rooms in our party were. So depending on which type you stay in, any of the previous reviews can apply.

The primary HUGE problem we had with the place is that the water system is antiquated. They use a boiler. For hot water, you have to turn on the faucet and wait at least 10 minutes. We didn't mind the wait, but I cringe thinking of the waste. Other comments:

Pros: rooms were spacious; the updated rooms were nice; rooms included washer/dryers; the location kept us away from crowds on the beach.

Cons: Yes, the floor to ceiling entire ocean facing wall of our condo was covered in bed sheets (hard to believe!). The front desk staff was catatonic; the hotel does not provide pool towels and does not allow room towels in the pool areas; no hair dryers in the rooms; appliances did not all work (blender and toaster); balconies and common areas were in dire need of repair; mildew on the bed linens; our balcony and patio chairs were covered in bird poop; tar on the room towels (probably why they don't allow room towels on the beach); the outdoor jacuzzi did not always heat up.

Went on October 2nd stayed for 3 nights we had a great time the room was great Everything in the room worked and it was very updated. Was also able to get in the hot tub and the pool. Everytime we have come to the mayan the front desk has always helped us in anyway they can. They have always made you feel like you are at home and also the weather was beautiful. Just wish it was not so expensive to stay there would like to be able to come twice a year not once a year. we hope to be able to come next year cant wait

Where do I start? The place is falling apart. The big screen T-V was the only saving grace. You enter your unit by jiggling the key in every conceivable direction until it finally opens. As you enter the kitchen you are met by a broken refrigerator with a stylish aluminum bowl where a ice maker once operated. You may however purchase ice @ $3.00 a bag (now that is a great accomodation), the door shelves are missing the fronts so you can't use the doors. the range is filthy, the counter tops have a marble like appearance but that is soon discovered to be 'caked on discolored grease' that has never been cleaned. turning away from that, is the dirty coffee maker. Broken floor electrical receptacles, dirty looking bedding in a closet, thrown on the floor, worn and stained bedding on the bed, a tub with a rubber stopper, toilet tissue dispenser that fell off the wall, all-in-all I was suprised to see these poor conditions at the price paid. I could go on about the abandoned appearance of the landscaping. The snippy front desk help,
