The NYLO in Plano is in a great location on Preston Rd near the Stonebriar Centre, Frisco and the North Dallas Tollway. It is very modern with free wi-fi internet and a good size HDTV with HD channels. There are some opportunities I hope the hotel addresses:
- If you stay anywhere near the bar...don't expect to sleep until 2 am. This place is packed all night with what appears to be non-hotel guests.
- The bar also serves breakfast and started blasting music at 7 am. This would have not been a problem if I had not gotten to sleep until 2 am.
- The room was very clean, but lacks privacy. The bathroom has a sliding door, but does not have walls that go to the ceiling. EVERYTHING that goes on in the bathroom will be heard.
- The "business center" is actually one computer (a Mac, but uses Windows) that had printing capabilities, but the printer was out of toner.

Overall this is a very cool hotel with comfortable beds, if you are into the hip scene. I don't recommend this place to business travelers that need to get up before noon. While it was inexpensive, they charged nearly a $400 hold on my credit card for two nights. I thought that was a little much.

  • Liked — Very modern with nice amenities.
  • Disliked — Very loud partiers until late in the night

I have traveled extensively for business and pleasure over the last 25 years. This hotel is perhaps in my top 5 hotels of all time for its sheer comfort and uniqueness. The ambiance is warm and comforting after a long day on the road. The extra touches like 32 inch flat panel tvs were quite nice, and the rooms was like no other I have ever stayed in. It blows away the traditional hotel room with its design and comfort. The glass shower was really nice. But probably the best feature of all was the comfortable bed with its 5 oversized pillows. Free wirelees internet was a nice feature too. What a gem this place is in the middle of Plano! I hope they expand this brand to other cities.

My husband and I just stayed at the NYLo for a one night getaway. The check-in/out staff were great--very friendly. We loved the environment/decor--very modern--you kind of feel like your in a new office building--but they inject great warm colors throughout---very NY loft like. The room is unique and trendy. It is smaller than some other chain hotels--but that's the point--it's loft-syle. The room was very clean and orderly. Beds/pillows very comfy.
We typically travel with our two young sons; however, this trip it was just the two of us----and we loved it for that purpose. However, I personally don't see this as a great place to stay for families with younger kids (I think older kids would like it). The restuarant/lounge area--was also a fun design. We paid the $10 more for breakfast to be included in our stay. It was okay (I would compare it to the Hampton's free breakast). We initially got charged $25 on top of the $10 we already paid for breakfast--but the check-out clerk--quickly fixed that for us. I most definitely would NOT pay $25 for this type of breakfast--Plano has several little fun cafes to eat breakfast at--that would not cost any more--and the food would be better. In fact, for any future stays--I won't even do the $10--I'll opt for eating elsewhere. The location is great--close to the mall, cafes/restuarants, other shops, etc. We went to the Studio Movie Grill--which is just about 8min away--down Preston. We were on the 3rd floor--and could hear the lounge music (the bass thud) from the 1st floor (note: and we were not directly over the lounge area--those rooms might even get more noisy)--I'm guessing that due to design--there is not a lot of absorbtion of sound--so be prepared for that---like I said it's fun environment--but perhaps not the most relaxing.
We will most definitely stay again--if our objective is fun getaway.

We stayed in a Jr. Suite, which had the "TV Room" around the corner from the bed. Overall, it was a nice, big room. The bathroom was funky and fun, but anyone in the room could hear anything happening in there. The bed was twins pushed together, so it started to separate slightly by morning. I don't think all rooms have this type of bed. It was too cold for swimming, but the pool area looked like fun.

Good things: Big, fancy TVs. CD player. iPod docking radio. Really nice decor and lighting. Overall, pretty quiet (but that might have been because the hotel seemed empty). Great food from the restaurant/bar, which always had great music playing. The hotel tries to incorporate "green" living, so they don't change out towels everyday if you're staying a week, unless you need them to.

Bad things: Typical Plano vibe ("I have lots of money, I'm super cool even though I'm 35"). The bar gets busy at night, but they aren't people staying at the hotel. I think they undercooked my shrimp, so I got a little sick. Alcoholic drinks were overpriced, which were tasty, but not terribly alcoholic.

  • Liked — How it was like staying in a Loft
  • Disliked — How we weren't "cool" enough to be there

My wife and I decided to give NYLO a try for New Years Eve. As you can see from their website, the decor is modern.

We were greeted politely at check in and given our requested room type on the second floor. This room is a hard loft style with special air filtering; very clean. A flat screen HD TV is wall mounted and swivels as needed. Bottled water in the room was offered at no charge.

While I found the room well above average, the following could be improved:

The gap at the door bottom is large and lets in light and noise from the hall.

The sliding bathroom door and hard surfaces prevent any sound isolation.

The room safe sits on a shelf and is not bolted down. It could be removed from the room easily.

All things considered, if you have to be in Plano, NYLO makes for an interesting stay.
