“Great value for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2007

She was once a grand lady, but she's still a nice place to stay run by a great couple. In front there's an expansive front lawn with a curving driveway from a quiet street, and then the sea wall and fishing pier. We were in the Magnolia Room upstairs, and it was very nice and very clean. There are albums of old pictures and articles about the hotel and community, and the "breakfast room" walls are covered with more pictures. We'd definitely stay there again. Be sure to have a shrimp boil dinner at the Outrigger, where you get a pound of huge and very fresh shrimp.

We take our vacations with no destination in mind and fell in love with the old and quaint picture the Luther presented as we were driving along the very clean beach. The rooms were spacious and clean. Although old furnishings, they were comfortable, clean and the view was spectacular. Our Grandson loved the pier for fishing and the park and was made very welcome by the staff. We were fortunate to be there when the owner was in residence and learned all the old history ot this wonderful home and the restaurants in the area were delicious. Good and plentiful for the $$$. Can't wait for our next trip there. No more chain hotels for us.

We stayed at the Luther Hotel Mother's Day weekend. We loved the peace and quiet. My husband did some fishing and I got a little sun. We loved the history, slow pace and friendliness of the place. I think you will enjoy it if you like historical, peaceful places. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are planning to return for our anniversary.

I and my partner have stayed at the Luther on a few occasions over the years. We always found it to be very clean considering it's age and the absence of Televisions and phones in the room was a blessing. I would highly recommend it for a weekend away from the city and a perfect place to relax. If you are looking for constant entertainment this isn't the place for you, but if you want to relax, enjoy the quiet and just soak up the atmosphere, then this is where you need to be.

I tend to gravitate towards the chain-type hotels, but travelling w/my father is always an adventure!! He chose the Luther, it is a charming, family run hotel situated on the gulf. The decor was maybe a bit dated, but the hotel was clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced. A "self-serve" continental breakfast was included and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. A few days after our return I was pleasantly surprised to receive a hand-written and personalized note thanking us for our stay. If you like to meet the natives and soak up a bit of the local culture and history, you'll enjoy the Luther.

Oh, oh, oh,
we stayed in Luther Hotel in June 2005 for 3 nights, because we picked up our daughter from this place (she was in Palacios as an exchange student for 10 months). The Hotel is placed directly to the seaside with a little park in front of it. From the outside it is a lovely little and old Hotel.

But inside this building it is really scruffy !!! Old beds, litlle rooms and a horrible sanitary installation !!!

Very, very old smelly carpets in the rooms and on the stairways.

May be that the owners did no investment for 50 years or more.

A little breakfast was included and it was almost ok.
AC in the room was in function.

A trip back in time. Always clean , a bit worn but you can feel the history around you. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rather stay here than a Hyatt regancy or Hilton.
