Today's drive was from San Antonio to Artesia, NM. A long day on the road and by lunchtime we were scouring the landscape and internet for choices. El Chato's is an oasis--though the decor is a bit kitschy. There were numerous work trucks in the parking lot, which is usually a good sign. We were seated quickly and the server was accomodating to the requests of the non-adventurous eater in our group (the 11 yr old). It did take a bit longer than anticipated for our meal to arrive, but they seemed to be short staffed. In the meanwhile, our drinks were kept filled and the chips and salsa were plenty. The beef filling in our tacos was very flavorful, with a hint of heat but it wasn't overwhelming. The toritillas were fresh and appeared to be homemade. All in all, we were very happy with our stop here and well fueled for the next leg of our trip.
