“Awesome!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

We stayed at the original section suites last summer and had a wonderful time! You can't beat the convenience of walking right out your door and being in the park! I do wish that the extended hour were in the evening rather than in the morning! We visited White Water at Silver Dollar City this summer, which stays open until 10:00 at night! Floating a lazy river at night is really cool! Just a suggestion! :) I'm in love with this place though! Wish it were a little more reasonable in price, so I didn't have talk my husband into it every summer!

So the rooms don't look like the Hilton. BUT, you get many things in return: 1)Part of the park opens an hour early, 2) some pools stay open late, 3) NO transportation issues to/from the park, 4)River transportation, 5)Family activities at night, 6)The ability to walk back to the room for lunch, 7)If family members are tired of the sun and heat they can go back to the room and let the others stay at the park, etc

We always bring a fan when traveling to any hotel for white noise.

Room Tip: We stay right in front of the kids' area.

We have been going to Schlitterbahn for years, however we decided to try the stay and play. Schlitterstein lofts were very accommodating. We stayed in 2 different units (because we decided at the last minute to stay another day). There is no sign of a train or its horn at these lofts. The lofts were very nice and updated with granite countertops, whirlpool tubs, and washer/dryer units in every unit (very good for drying our towels). Parking is covered which was good for us since it rained while we were there. We got to enjoy after hours perks such as the park's hot tubs and swimming pools. We were able to go in early to the park and beat the crowd. The only drawback I personally didn't like was the size of the bed in the master suite. In my opinion for the price we paid, there should be a king size bed in the master. I'm used to a king size, and this bed felt like a full size. The beds were however comfortable and the pillows were of good quality. The view from the balcony was awesome. The rear balcony opens to the Comal and the master suite balcony opens to the parking lot. The appliances were very good, but the dryer (Bosch brand) was a little slower than what we are used to at home. That being said, it still dried our clothes while we slept.

The check-in staff were great. We received great service from them. They answered all of our questions and were very friendly. We saw the Schlitterbahn security guards that they had on staff, so we know they were there to watch our valuables, but the environment seemed pretty safe.

If any improvements can be made, I would suggest upgrading the units with king size beds and replacing the tile in the shower stall floor. The rock-ish floor is not the most comfortable afer walking around all day in the park bare footed.

Overall, our experience was great. There are a couple of areas where improvement is possible. I would definitely recommend the lofts to a friend. But for the money, give us the larger beds. Give us the value!

Room Tip: All rooms were great. You can drive to the park or take the shuttle that stops by. Third floor uni...

Thank you for your review! The new SchlitterStein Lofts are a great addition to our current inventory. The lofts provide a great view of the Comal River. A perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning! I'm very pleased that you received great customer service from our Resort staff. We strive to make your vacation as memorable as possible for you and your family.

We had booked an extended family vacation in a 2 bedroom condo that fits 8 people. Our units were in the # 150's. The unit was very old and probably the original with no updates. The layout of the room was weird. You have to walk through one bedroom to get to the other. There were 2 tiny bathrooms that were only big enough to fit one person. The kitchenette was small and not fully stocked for us to cook meals. The table in the condo only fit 4 people and the unit was supposed to be for a family of 8. There was not enough seating in the family room for more than 3-4 people to sit. There were a couple seats outside the front door. The entryway opened to a part of the park near some of the kid areas. Needless to say, we were paying $400 for these rooms. Not acceptable!! Kudos to management, Logan, for understanding the complaints we had and fully refunded all of our money and deposit. She acknowledged our situation and agreed with us. Moved on to a different hotel.

Jennifer Z,

Thank you for your review. I am pleased to hear that our management team was understanding and acknowledged your situation and handled the situation appropiately. While we strive to meet our guests expectations, some of our resort rooms are in much need of an update. We are in the process of making much needed renovations to our property but must go in stages.

Your review is very helpful to our management team as we make decisions for the future.

Sincerely,

Kathryn H.

I had read the previous reviews AFTER booking my reservation at Schlitterbahn Resort and was sceptical of what to expect and at what we would be getting into. From the beginning of our stay, my scepticism was aleviated by our surroudings and by the staff ... don't get me wrong, we're not talking about a Hyatt or a Marriott, but what you get is good family fun in a room that serves it purpose-- a place to eat and sleep. You simply cannot beat the conveniences- the proximity to the rides and other attractions, a short walk back to the room after long days of fun at the park, activities within the resort after the waterpark closes, early access to a few of the popular rides, a nice staff ... everything about our stay was just good. It was nice to have a fantastic family time with the convenience of location/

This was our second year to stay at the "Resort", in the original section. We have been to the water park many times, always staying nearby. Last year we decided to stay at the resort because our granddaughter was six months old, and we thought it would be easier to be on-site. It was. We had access to the park, didn't have to wait in the entrance line or traffic each morning, and we could go to our room when needed. Our daughter and her husband could go play, and we'd watch the baby, and vice-versa. We did the same this year (she is 16 months old.) That's what makes it so nice about staying right at the park.

Last year we were in Rm. 440 (very tight quarters.) This year we had Rm. 404, which had more room, better for a toddler. BUT, the train was very near - and loud. Of course, they have a disclaimer that no refunds or discounts will be given because of the train noise.

The rooms are old and very outdated. Both had a bedroom with two queen beds, a living area with sleeper sofa, and kitchen area. They are probably the CLEANEST rooms I've ever stayed in. The major complaint we had this year was that we had queen beds, but the sheets were double. Wi-fi was hit and miss - mostly miss. We also had a very unstable dining table - unsafe for a toddler. I tried to call maintenance and front desk from the room phone, but those buttons did nothing. I walked down to the office and was told they would tell maintenance. Never happened. My husband was able to tighten to it up a bit, but not much.

If you are going with a toddler, I would suggest staying on-site. However, they have the Stay and Play package, and you pay for each night you are there, whether you get there in time to enjoy the park the first night, or not.

Bottom line. Don't let the word "Resort" fool you. That it is not. The complex is very old, very outdated. You have to decide if it is worth it to be able to stay right there, and never have to leave (if you plan it right - food, etc.) You pay a hefty price for "convenience". We figured it was approximately $103 per adult/per day to "Stay and Play".

We hope to do it again next year. I will continue to monitor the reviews on Trip Advisor, and decide when the time gets near. Hopefully, they will make improvements.

After reading the comments from the resort manager, it seems they think the fact that you are able to stay right there and enjoy the park is enough. We'll see.

Room Tip: Rm. 404 is near the railroad tracks. Loud train several times a night. Rm. 440 is cramped, but mor...

aerdna56,

Thank you for your review! Although your accommodations were not properly stocked with the correct supplies, I'm very pleased to know the cleanliness of the room was up to your standards. While we are very proud of our location in regards to the waterpark, we do realize that location is not everything. The resort is currently in the process of an extensive refurbishment program and improvements are being made daily. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Sincerely,

We had never been to Schlitterbahn, and judging from the billboards and ads, it really looked like a great experience. The waterpark was as advertised, lots of fun! The resort is very old and has a feeling of being run-down. We rented a one bedroom cabin, and while it was definitely old and could use a bathroom reno, and change out the furniture, it was just fine for what we needed. We could hear the train, but it didn't bother us at all, in fact eventually we didn't notice it at all. It was great to have our own little cabin, I cooked breakfast and dinner, we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. Loved not eating out at every meal, in fact brought sandwiches into the park for lunch, plus bottled water. The cabins are built along and above the river and the toobers float by, so cool! We truly enjoyed ourselves and it was a fun adventure. Just know, this is not a resort in the strictest definition of the word. It is a compilation of old, older and vintage hotel rooms, cabins and condo's. Inside the park are newer and over the top expensive cabins, but you have kids in the park running through constantly, you are IN the park! The old cabins were quiet, functional and comfortable. Plus, you're parked right alongside your door, and we felt very safe. There are two parks, the old one is connected to the resort and you just walk on over. The new one is an easy and free tram ride, as it's just a little too far to walk comfortably from the resort. The resort has two small pools, perfect for kids to splash in. There are barbeques and picnic tables for families to use, very very family friendly. We will be coming back next year!! In fact, we'll make this a yearly family vacation. Oh, and the staff are very sweet and friendly. Don't be put off by the young ones working a summer job, they don't know where anything is, but the front desk staff are very helpful.
