“Mulberry Haus - Good value for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

I recently spent a weekend at Schlitterbahn with extended family. We stayed in Mulberry Haus, which is room 470. We had 7 adults, 1 teen, and 2 small children for the weekend. The house worked out well for our group.

The house is outside the original part of Schlitterbahn about a block from the entrance. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a full kitchen, living room, and a very nice back deck and grill. One bedroom has a single king-sized bed and the other two bedrooms each have 2 queen beds. There is a full-sized sofa bed in the living room. The room with the king bed has a bathroom with a shower. The second bathroom is between the two room with queen beds. It has a shower/tub combo. There is also a washer and dryer in the house.

The house was clean although there were some scuff marks on the furniture and stains on the carpet. Scuffs and stains are expected for a house that gets used by guests most days of the year. There wasn’t any mold or musty smells. It is still early in the summer fun season so the house may show more signs of wear by the end of summer.

The kitchen is well equipped with plates, glasses, silverware, and basic cooking utensils. There is a full-sized fridge, 4-burner electric stove top, oven, dishwasher, and microwave. The freezer has an ice maker and there was a coffee maker and toaster.

A maid came by both days we were there to straighten, make beds, dump trash, and change the towels. We went through a lot of towels since everyone wanted to shower after a day of water play. The bathrooms came with small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, and lotion and bars of soap. The bottles were replenished as they were used.

We took advantage of the discounted Schlitterbahn tickets and early opening time for the Blastenhoff section. It seemed like everyone else did also. Lines got long quickly and it took us about 45 minutes one day and 30 minutes another to get on Master Blaster. I’m sure the lines were worse once the park opened to the general public. We only rode Master Blaster once each day. Wolf Pack also had extremely long lines even early.

There were a few downsides. The house is close to train tracks so we could hear train whistles inside the house. It wasn’t horribly noisy but light sleepers may want to bring ear plugs. The beds are very firm so people used to memory foam or pillow top mattresses may have problems sleeping. The mattress for the sofa is very thin so the support bars can be felt through the mattress. There weren’t any hangers in the closet. Fortunately we brought a few of our own. I tried to use the WIFI but the signal was weak. Many times I lost signal completely. We shared a parking area with the house next door. There were enough spaces for 3 vehicles for each house. We had 3 vehicles for our group but the neighbors had 6. Rather than park on the street, they would block the entire driveway so we couldn't get out.

The house is a long walk from the office and other resort amenities, such as the pools that are open after the park closes. We didn’t go to the after-hours pools so I don’t know how they are. There are shuttles that run between two Schiltterbahn parks. However, the pick-up area for resort guests is by the office. We decided to drive or walk between the parks rather than take the shuttle.

Overall, the house was very nice for our group and we would stay there again. People expecting a resort with fitness center, spa, restaurants, etc. would be disappointed. It's definitely a family-oriented place to stay.

Very overpriced for a crappy room. This is not a resort. Which is what I expected. We drive over 8 hours because we heard it was so fun. My idea of fun is not standing in line for an hour and a half to ride a 60 second waterside. Our room was moldy and not very clean. Someone stayed above us and they didn't sleep much. The rooms are so cheap it sounded like Godzilla was above us. Terrible vacation!

There is some fine print in the hotel's reservation policy. It says that trains run through the property and that there are no discounts or refunds because of this. But they don't tell you up front, for good reason. They figure they are covered if you are smart enough to read all the fine print. The trains run though almost hourly every night, just yards from some of the rooms on the old side of the resort. Multi-locomotive trains that blare their horns constantly. Don't plan on a good night's sleep at all. If you go, ask for rooms on the new side of the resort, or the Tree Haus rooms. Probably quieter. The rooms on the old side aren't terrible, just old. Housekeeping never came while we were there though, guess they forgot about us.
All that said, there is something to be said about being onsite at Schlitterbahn. Discounted park tickets and proximity to the rides, and early admission to the new side of the park are all good. Just bring ear plugs.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the new side, or if you choose the old side, ask to be as far away from the tracks...

Reading the reviews, I had mixed feelings about booking here but now that I am here, I realize I wasted my time worrying. Is it the Ritz? No - this is a water park. We stayed in a 400 series two room condo/suite right in the middle of things. The room is just decent. It is clean and has beds. The great part is it is right next to a ride. Not ski in / out but tube in/out.

I had a group of my daughters teenage friends and we got here and they were able to take off with instructions to show back up.

They have a program where for 25 a head, they get two days of water time since we are a guest. The kitchen means no need to have everyone rush to a shower to go eat. They can stay in their suits and slowly wash off while eating cheaply in the room (and what teenager wouldn't prefer to eat spagetti with friends slowly instead of sitting in a resturant).

Also free wifi

We just returned from our 9th summer trip to Schiltterbahn. We always stay on site for the sake of convenience. It is so nice not to worry about parking every day. We either walk to the park or take the shuttle, depending on which park we are going to. It's an easy trip back to the room for lunch or a quick break.

A couple of years ago, Schlitterbahn made staying on site even more enticing by opening the tower at Blastenhoff an hour early for people staying at the resort. We head to Blastenhoff around 8:45 to get new arm bands and get in line. We are always able to ride the Master Blaster twice and the Black Knight at least twice before the park opens to the public. Once the park opens, there is at least a thirty minute wait for the Master Blaster, usually longer.

The new Stay and Play option is also fantastic, allowing use of the park from the day you check in through the day you check out, for just $25 per person, per day.

If you are expecting fancy, this is not the place for you. The accommodations are not upscale (except for the new Treehaus Resort), and calling it a "resort" is a stretch. The rooms are more along the lines of a camping cabin or an inexpensive motel. We have stayed in five different room types, ranging from the motel to a three bedroom house. All of the accommodations were somewhat dated, but always clean and neat with plenty of towels. The beds are comfortable, there is plenty of hot water, and the AC is cold. There are grills and picnic tables outside the rentals.

We prefer the Condos at the Rapids because they are a few short steps to the Surfenburg entrance and about a two minute walk over to the Blastenhoff. The shuttle to the original park is right outside the door. We love the washer/dryer and full size kitchen, too. If you rent there, be sure to get a condo that does not have bedroom windows facing the road, as it gets very noisy early in the morning.

Overall, we love the Schlitterbahn Resort. The service is great and you can't beat the convenience. We will continue to go back every summer.

Room Tip: Be sure not to get a room close to the railroad tracks. The train runs all night long.

Stayed in a 3 bedroom condo with my 16 month old little girl and a friend and her kids, it was very easy to get to every part of the park, the view was amazing and the Condo was very home-like, they even had portable cribs available for my daughter to sleep in so I didn't have to bring ours from home. My daughter loved the parks, as did I, I also loved the ease of everything.
