“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

Just returned from my second stay at the Gruene Apple B&B, it is an absolutely wonderful place! The amenities are endless (even a library and a game room!). They provide music and wine in the evening in a lovely setting. The proprietors and staff are friendly and accomodating but you still have a feeling of privacy. I have stayed in two different rooms and found them both to be charming, exquisitely decorated, and incredibly comfortable (also very clean). The breakfast is an elaborate and delicious event, beautifully served with countless selections ranging from "hearty" to "dainty", plus great coffee. Everything about this place is comfortable and inviting.

On the surface, this place seems nice. As other reviewers have pointed out, it is disconcerting to see plastic flowers lining the entryway. While I'm aware this area has been hit by severe drought, it doesn't appear that the plastic flora is there to prevent overuse of water since there is a fountain running and the very green grass is not a type recommended for xeriscapes. The decorations in the rooms are cute, but cheap. I would much rather they had spent the money to install quality facilities instead of the decorations. The flooring in the bathroom is cheap linoleum, already worn in places. The sink had a crack in it. The towels were discolored. We stayed here in May also and the toilet would not shut off. So, the hotel is not being properly maintained, in my opinion, and will continue to deteriorate.
While I realize this hotel mainly caters to vacationers, it seems a little inconvenient to serve breakfast for only 1 hour, from 8:30 to 9:30. Plus, when I went down at 9:25, the doors to the kitchen area were already shut. And the other thing that could have been truly embarrassing: on the morning we were packing to check out, the owner walked into the room without knocking. His response upon seeing us still in the room was that someone had told him we'd left. I'm guessing one of the staff saw my husband take some of our luggage to the car, and assumed we had left, but why not knock to make sure? I will find another place to stay next time I'm in the area.

Do not have any type of venue here! They cannot handle it. They promise, make you sign a contract, and do not deliver. They also follow you around, deny you amenities, and charge you exhorbitant amounts for things that were "damaged". We rented the entire place for my daughter's wedding. We were so excited, they didn't ruin the experience, just put quite a dent in the experience. The Owner, Front Desk Clerk and the Owner's father are not acquainted with the hospitality business and what it entails. I recommend a "Hotel Impossible" visit! We were so disappointed. I read the reviews and was excited, touted it for quite a while. So sad that it's the place to remember for a wedding. I recommend a "Hotel Impossible" visit!

Twelve hundred dollars in damages to our property were incurred by your group, $1200 was paid. It's unfortunate that these events ruined your experience. We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your review.

I am crrently staying at Green Apple for two nights and wish I could stay longer. Arrived last night great welcome from Chuck, free wine in lounge, themed rooms are exceptionally good. Breakfast this am was 5 star served by the owner Lloyd who is one of the friendliest, most helpful and interesting proprieters I have come across. Gruene is a beautiful resort with interesting shops and winding rivers, a great place to chill out. I cannot recomment this B&B highly enough - it is faultless. Malcolm Wotton-under-Edge, UK

Thank you for your kind review! We appreciate your experienced-traveler observations...we all enjoyed visiting with you, too! Lloyd especially was pleased to take a trip down memory lane and his journeys in Europe. We hope to see you again next time you're touring through Texas!

The hotel and staff were great. The breakfast was everything you could possible want. You are within walking distance of a great little village to shop, dine and even dance in. We did not try it but there is a small pool with a hot tub. Be sure and try the vintage pac-man in the basement.

Went for my anniversary. The B&B is beautiful, theme rooms are awesome. Took a nap with the balcony door open and fell asleep to the sound of the river rushing below...so peaceful. Breakfast is great and the media room is very comfortable. A little further down the street so you are not right in the middle of Gruene but you can walk there in about 5 minutes!

I would love to visit again...soon!!

After you stay at the Gruene Apple you will understand why this is an award winning property. It is a beautiful and well-maintained B and B. Breakfast is as good as others have claimed. Only problem is that it does not start until 8:30 A.M. They do put out a coffee cart at 7:00 A.M. The location is close to everything in this neat little place called Gruene. You can do plenty of looking at antiques and enjoy some of the pretty natural beauty of this area. Staff was very friendly.
