“Decent stay despite front desk attendant, Debi Patel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2009

First morning there, I went to get food and coffee from the breakfast bar to take back to my room. On the way back into my room, I spilled some coffee on the concrete outside of my room. About 10-20min later, despite the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on my door, Debi Patel, the front desk attendant knocks on my door with an angry look in her face telling me I am not allowed to have coffee in the room, that I am paying for. She completely ignored the fact that there are coffee makers in each room and really left a bitter taste in regard to customer experience.

About 30 minutes later, I approached the front desk to ask for a bathtub drain stopper since ours was missing. She told me I would have to wait several hours.

The room was decent, but the customer service made the customer experience a sham. The hotel staff seemed lazy and very unprofessional.

The room was filthy - carpet was so disgusting we would no walk on it with just socks. Shoes were a must. The chairs were dirty and stained. There were roaches in the bathroom. Food from a previous guest was in the microwave. The bathroom door and door jam looked like a mechanic had been living there for a month and no one had bothered to clean up after they left. The safety latch on the door was broken.

If had know I could post pictures I would have taken some to illustrate how dirty the room was.

When we arrived at 1am there was no parking. We ended up parking in a handicapped space because there were literally no other parking spaces.

I would not refer my worst enemy to this hotel.

When you book into a hotel chain like Days Inn you know what to expect: an identikit copy of the last Days Inn you stayed at, yet this one fell below par.

The staff are friendly enough, but when we checked into our room there was an empty food packet on top of the TV. You don't generally expect to find trash from the previous occupant in the room, and it reduces your confidence that they've done other cleaning, like changing the sheets, though we didn't find any evidence that they hadn't.

We booked a non-smoking room through Travelocity but were informed when we checked in that it was a smoking room and that Travelocity don't guarantee requests like smoking/non-smoking rooms. We did book the day before travelling so it is possible that all the non-smoking rooms were occupied.

The sign at the front of the hotel claims "free wifi in all rooms" but the only wireless network we got in our room (or anywhere other than reception) was the Comfort Inn's secured WiFi next door, so no Internet access was available.

We checked in with three people, but there were only enough towels in the room for two people. Also the towels are very small.

Oh, and the TV remote was missing.

Finally, breakfast the next morning was lacking: much of the food had run out by 9am. While we were eating the scraps that were left, things started to be replenished, but it looked like the breakfast area was maintained by the receptionist who also had to deal with people checking out, so the place felt understaffed.

It's quite likely that most of these problems would have been resolved by reception if we'd asked, but you do expect these things to just be right without asking, so although the room was otherwise clean (trash excepted) I think this hotel is worse than the average hotel I've stayed in.

  • Liked — Excellent location, right in the centre of town.
  • Disliked — A few issues that left us feeling disappointed.

We stayed here during Homecoming of the local college, SFA. Our room was fine, clean, good water pressure, comfortable beds, etc. Our problem occured when we called to modify our reservations 24 hrs in advance of our stay. Management tried to charge for 2 night minimum stay. We didn't have this information at booking and it wasn't on the website. They agreed to drop the 2nd might charge by phone. When we arrived to check in, again the manager tried to charge us for 2 nights. The prices were jacked up as it for high volume weekend due to homecoming. We won't stay there again, not because of the room, but because of poor business practices.

These allegations are completely false. We have never price gouged any guest staying at our hotel. Homecoming is the busiest week so we go by our double occupancy rates. Plus, at the time we had just renovated our entire hotel. Also, rates depend on what room type as we do have suites.

Hotel looks good outside - inside is a complete mess. Booked here based on internet reviews & relatives pre-hurricane experience. 1st room hideous - supposed to be non-smoking but reeked of cigarettes, carpet tattered & filthy, tub dirty, sheets & bed cover stained & threadbare, pistachio nut shells on floor by the bed along with scattering of toenail clippings. Told front desk the room was not acceptable, moved us to another only slightly better room - also tattered, dirty carpet, dirty bed cover, unwashed makeup(?) stains on bed pad & wads of hair in bed. Decided to check out- no way we could sleep here. Front desk apologized profusely & asked us to please try one more room - it was late & we did not relish the idea of searching for a room, so we agreed. Put us in king suite with jacuzzi tub (we had no desire to use). Room was barely acceptable - dirty pillow slip, carpet so filthy we wore socks which were brown the next day like we had walked down a dirt road. Walls filthy with repairs everywhere but not painted. TV remote & internet service didnt work. Did stay 1 night here, did not get much sleep - felt unclean & very uncomfortable, couldnt wait to leave in the morning. Breakfast not at all appetizing - went to IHOP. Yes this hotel needs remodeling (at least paint, new carpet & sheets/blankets), but the housekeeping is absolutely awful too which cannot be blamed on anyone else. Only good thing about this hotel is the front desk was apologetic & helpful.
