“Not much of a "Resort"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

We visited the resort for a couple of days prior to the busy Memorial Day rush. The resort itself is off the beaten path but located on Lake Conroe. The pool area is nicely set up for all ages. We traveled with an infant and a 3 yr old and we were able to entertain them both. They have a baby pool, kids splash/slide cove, a lazy river, and a nice pool with two big kid water slides. They also have an adults only pool but we did not venture there. Towels are provided at the pool for convenience which was nice since we had to drive from our Golf Suite to the pool and had to lug the pool bag (already stuffed with floats and sunscreen) with us.

The golf course is also nice. It has lots of trees... be warned... but they have lost many due to the drought and are in the process of removing them. There are stumps throughout the 18 hole course. The course itself is in decent shape with only a few patches of dead grass here and there on the greens. Be aware of the course rules before you head out! We paid the "Special" price they had for May of $49 for 18 w/ cart at the Pro Shop, whereas the hotel is charging $60 ahead of time and will bill you. (They did refund both rounds of golf for $60 with proof of receipt... annoying that it was even on the bill considering we were told it would not be charged to us unless we told the pro shop to use it.) The pro shop is nice but the man who ran the shop on site is not the friendliest of persons.

Accommodations: We stayed in a 2 bedroom GOLF VILLA and while the rooms were plenty big for our party of 4 adults and two kids, it left A LOT to be desired in the way of a "resort" accommodation. The master bedroom has a king bed and a large bathroom with walk in shower (no tub). The second room has two double beds with a bathroom (with tub/shower). There is a living room and a dining area (just a table and chairs) attached with an office space in between. Our living area had a sliding back door with porch that opened up to the 18th hole (near the green). All three spaces had flatscreen tvs mounted on the walls and there was a dividing door to separate the rooms when necessary.

First off the price is very high for what little you get. There is no KITCHENETTE or microwave or mini frig to speak of in the room. There is a minibar but of course those items are over priced. The room itself needs some major updating. The couch sits so low to the ground that my older parents could not sit down or get up from it. It was also dingy/dirty and lacked comfort. The room itself looked as if it had not been stayed in for a long time. Yes, the beds were made and everything we needed was there (towels, soaps, etc) but there were dead bugs on the beds and in the sheets. There were cobwebs all over the place and spiders crawling around too. Again... not what you expect for $350 a night. The two rooms both had ice buckets but the ice machine was no where to be found. You could call the concierge and they would bring you some ice by golf cart or you could walk a ways to the ice machine down the road.

They are PET friendly if the dog is under 30lbs. There is a $250 deposit at check in but you will only get $200 back at check out... and you will need to remind them of that at check out!

Our saving grace was that there is a Walmart located a few miles away (where you turn off to get to the resort). We purchased snacks and drinks and ice for our ice chests there. There are a few local restaurants but no chain restaurants near by and you would have to drive almost 20+ minutes back to the interstate to find anything nationally known. The restaurants at the resort are pricey and and average at best.

Finally, check your bill before leaving! We had several mistakes that had to be removed from our bill. :(

Room Tip: If you stay in a villa, they are farther away from the hotel and services that are offered. If you...

Enjoyed a fantastic family Memorial Day weekend at La Torretta. My husband and I stayed here previously when is was Del Lago, so the upgrades and amenities were a pleasant surprise. Our family enjoyed the pool complex with slides, lazy river and splash pool. The dive-in movies were fun and also the s'mores poolside in the evening. We usually stay at the Woodlands Resort, but this property has so much more to offer our family. The rooms are wonderful with the large bathrooms and separate bedroom from the living room. Also the kid play zone on the second floor is a bonus and provides nice break from the afternoon sun. The mini-putt putt was a bunch of fun for our family as well as playing tennis on the tennis courts. There was a neat teen lounge near the tennis courts which has ping-pong, air hockey and a tv with xbox games. The restaurants on property were very good. We enjoyed the poolside waitstaff service for drinks and lunch. I highly recommend this property for families.

Love this hotel, great location on the Lake. Our room was really nice and the bathroom was huge. Balcony could have been done with some chairs and a clean but we didn't really use it so we didn't care.
Pool area is great and the kids loved it. One thing that really did annoy us was people reserving sun beds at 8 am with magazines, flip-flops etc and then not appearing at the pool until 3 hours later! The hotel needs to sort this out.
Valet was a bit of a hassle, lots of cars coming in and out when we wanted to leave and they didn't answer the phone when we called down but it was Memorial Sunday and the hotel was very busy. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our car, but it didn't spoil things.
We will be back and we will recommend it to friends :)

Room Tip: Read another review that said rooms were in need of updating, well our room was lovely, flat screen...

Visited Memorial Day weekend for 2 nights. So as the title says - Rooms were very nice and bathroom was huge but the problems were in the service and not having enough staff.
1 - They had drinking water out by the pool on Saturday but then they never put it out on Sunday, so the wait staff had to bring water out to the pool in drinking cups to individuals - which of course took up all their time and could get around to the rest of the food orders. We asked for the water to be put out many times over the span of hours and we kept getting told "it's coming"
2 - They ran out of marshmallows for the smores for the kids on Sunday evening! So of course cranky kids = unhappy parents
3 Friends of ours who we were visiting with, found another set of keys in their car from Valet.
4 - Our final bill had valet charges of $10/day on their but the original contract I signed at check in said it was to be $8 - while the amount is insignificant, charge me the correct amount!
5 - The lazy river was about 8-10 inches low so it wasn't getting cleaned by the skimmers so it was getting dirty.
6 - Tried eating at Prime one night and there wasn't enough kid friendly food on the buffet to warrant staying four group which had
7 - Tried calling for valet to bring the car up multiple times (as they instructed) but never got them to answer so always had to wait in line.

This resort offered a very nice room with plenty of amenities. The property and room were very clean and nicely appointed. The valet service was severely under staffed, but this did not detract from my overall satisfaction with the resort. The pool area, lazy river was in need of cleaning...lots of leaves, bugs, debris. Of course my kids did not care, but I did. We played miniature golf at night and it was great. The Prime dining room breakfast buffet was WAY OVERPRICED. Do not eat there unless you have vouchers, which we did not. The pool side cafe was decent, and the food and drinks were ready quickly which was good because my kids were hungry. My family and I will stay here again.

The property is in need a major cleaning. This is was our 4th and last stay at this resort. We stayed in golf villa, the inside was great but the outside was covered with bugs and spiderwebs and bugs trapped in the webs.

The pool furniture , spa furniture outside, and patio furniture was dirty and filled with spiderwebs. The landscape upkeep was aweful, the lazy river was dirty, and the pools were dirty.

My family once loved this resort but now I searching for a new Memorial Day resort to frequent.

Do not stay here!! Horrible customer service if any at all. No manager on duty or when you call to take care of anything and there were many things not as advertised. I finally talked to the manager the day after I got home and only because he happened to be the one to answer when I called. Every other time they were not around or in a meeting. I rented a 1300 square foot golf villa or so I thought. When I arrived to check in the lady explained it was a duplex style hotel room with doors that open in the middle. I ask if they had any one room villas as advertised on their website and they told me all of the golf rooms are the duplex style. I thought well I'll just deal with it and when I got to the room the doors will not open between the two rooms, bolted shut or something. So I ended up only using one side of the room. Most of the restaurants were closed at night. One open for breakfast. The over all experience was just ok and definately not worth the money. Find another resort.

Room Tip: Golf villa is not as advertised.
