In between Dallas and Abilene, there is a billboard that advertises the Smokestack, just off I-20. My friend and I fell for the ad and pulled into the parking lot by the old smokestack.
Oh! How we wished we had eaten back in Cisco at the restaurant the gas station lady said was the best place in town! If it hadn't been closed for repairs, we would have eaten there and I wouldn't be writing this epistle of warning...
I ordered the sausage plate. The mashed potatoes weren't seasoned at all and my sausage tasted exactly like an Eckrich smoked link. I got nothing against the Eckrich boys, but I expected more of this restaurant than to warm up some groceries and drop them on a plate. Especially after I paid a sizable fee for said vittles that took forever to get to the table.
Sorry, no, it's not a restaurant. Take a picture of the smokestack and drive on, even if you're starving.
