I don't usually bother leaving reviews for hotels I've stayed in, but I let some of the reviews I read here ruin the excitement of the few days leading up to going away and I don't want anyone else to worry after reading some of the (frankly ridiculous) bad reviews I came across here.
Ok so yes, the apartments have a spiral staircase. But you really can't complain about this, after all they are featured in every hotel description and accommodation photos. So you know they're going to be there before you book. Obviously if you have young children or have mobility problems then these apartments aren't recommended, but don't book it then moan about the stairs you knew were there!! To be honest I didn't find them to be a problem, my fiancé got his case up then mine, getting full cases back down might've been a bit more adventurous, so we took them down empty and chucked all our clothes over the banister and packed downstairs to come home. So it really wasn't a problem!!
I did see a couple of tiny ants in the bathroom, but to be honest I wouldn't have noticed them if it wasn't for the fact I'd read reviews of people commenting on them so I was actively looking otherwise I'm not sure I'd have noticed.
I also read reviews that there was no TV, no kettle, no mirrors... There is a kettle, its very cleverly 'hidden' in a cupboard. Ok so it isn't electric but there’s a kettle and a hob, I don't even drink tea or coffee and I figured out how to boil it. I came across two mirrors, there’s one in the bathroom and another above the dressing table in the bedroom. Though if you're too busy crawling about on your arms and knees seeking out ants these two things could be easily missed. Ok so there’s no TV, but there’s a swimming pool just outside, bars, restaurants, a beach..so it wasn't really missed!
Our towels were changed every second day which was fine and the sheets once a week. Again, I can't really see how people can moan about this, or the fact its 'basic'. If you want your towels and sheets changed every day, go 4 or 5 star. A lot of bad reviews appear to be from people expecting 5 star accommodation but are too stingy to pay for it. The accommodation is cheap and you get what you pay for. Personally I was nervous before reading reviews as I tend to stay in 4 or 5 star accommodation anyway so wasn't sure how this would be, but I was happy with these apartments. Only thing I did have the cheek to moan about on occasion was that there was no air conditioning (but again I knew this when booking)and it was 39-40 degrees the entire two weeks, so it was a bit uncomfortable at times!!
It can be noisy, but if you're looking for a quiet holiday then las americas isn't really the place to go as it's known for its lively nightlife! I read reviews that the locals 'don't like the british'. This was my 4th time visiting Las Americas and I have never found this. Tourism is the biggest industry in Tenerife and do the majority of locals jobs and livelihoods’ depend on tourists visiting the island so they're more than happy to have you there. Found the locals, particularly those in the bars and restaurants, very helpful and friendly.
So all in all, the bad reviews in my opinion appear to be people looking for problems and liking a good moan. Don't waste time worrying after booking like I did, little bit of common sense and you'll be fine. Besides you're on holiday, enjoy it and don't actively look for things to moan about! Or if you really need an electric kettle and luxury accommodation, don't book a 2 key apartment, again...common sense... Enjoy :)
